County gets water for Kiunga, Basuba

The Lamu government is supplying 10,000 residents of Kiunga and Basuba wards with water.

There has been a prolonged drought in areas.

The county has dispatched two water boozers and acquired a desalination plant to start a Sh10 million project to end the shortage.

County official Salim Bunu said the residents have been suffering since water reservoirs dried up in December.

He said they depend on rain water.

Speaking to the Star on the phone yesterday, Bunu said the residents fetch water from the Mangai river, 50 km away.

When President Uhuru visited Lamu last month, he said the national government will work with the county to supply water.
