Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has announced that more than 10,000 people will receive title deeds

Lamu Governor Issa Abdallah Timamy has announced that more than 10,000 people will receive title deeds once an ongoing adjudication exercise will be completed.

Mr. Timamy said his administration will ensure all villages are surveyed and residents issued with title deeds for their residential houses and farms.

Speaking when he issued out 850 title deeds to the residents of Mkunumbi Township, Mr. Timamy said his government and the National Land Commission (NLC) will work closely to speed up the exercise.

He said the title deeds are freehold where beneficiaries will be exempted from paying the requisite land charges.

The Governor cautioned residents against selling their plots at throw away prices whilst land values continue to appreciate steadily due to several upcoming flagship projects including Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport Corridor (LAPSETT).

Already 2,927 title deeds have been either been issued out or pending issuance in Mkunumbi, Ndambwe, Mapenya, Kiogwe, Nagele, Ndau, Mbwajumwali, Kizingitini and Miyabogi.

The Governor further added that some 7200 landowners would receive title deeds once the ongoing adjudication exercises are completed by June.

Pending adjudication exercise will take place in Faza,Tchundwa, Ras Kitau, Manda settlement scheme, Vumbe,Mkowe trading center and Swahili scheme/Hindi Magogoni II.

Mr. Timamy said similar exercise would be moved to other areas in the next financial year.
