The Extraction of Gas in Lamu to Start Soon

Zarara Oil and Gas Limited Company officials and Lamu governor Issa Timamy visited Faza Island on Wednesday 10th May and meet with the locals to sensitized on the progress of the planned exploration of gas.

The company is expected to drill around 1 or 2 wells in Lamu East constituency to extract gas.

Company community liaison officer Alawy Abzain said the company conducted surveys between 2012 and 2013 of block L4 in Pate island of Lamu East constituency which he said confirmed that the area had gas deposits.

The first phase of extraction will start before the end of June while the second phase is set before December.

Mr. Zain said all families that will be affected during the drilling process will be compensated.

“Discussions are already ongoing for those whose land will be used for the same. We want to ensure they are compensated,” said Mr. Zain

Mr. Zain expressed a lot of appreciation to the Lamu governor Issa Timamy and Lamu county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri for their support.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy lauded the move for Zarara Company to commence oil and gas extraction in Lamu and assured the investors maximum cooperation.

The company has agreed to rehabilitate the road from Mtangawanda to where the oil will be extracted.
