Yesterday the 19th October 2017, the entire team of Executives which was on a one week induction course at Mombasa Beach Hotel paid a courtesy call at Kilindini port. The team was lead by the newly, fairly and credibly elected Governor Fahim Yassin Twaha. All the Ministers were present and the Deputy Governor was among the team members.
It was a familiarization tour of port activities, establishing a friendly partnership between Lapset and Kilindini /KPA, to review the Lapset progress with other stakeholders and to exchange ideas concerning both parties.
The delegation was received and hosted by the KPA MD Catherine Wairi, Edward Kamau, Marketing Manager and Engineer Peter Oremo , the Lapset project Manager and other Senior KPA staff.
The hosts were very happy to be visited by the Lamu County Executives and said they were looking forward for a full working cooperation between them. The Engineer commented that he was more than satisfied with the Lapset progress and could confirm that it will start operations as scheduled. He added that the port area needs a further expansion to accommodate the high number of berths. The completion of the first three berths will enable the port to start its operations on time. This will lead to employment of thousands of Lamu County residents.
The team then toured different areas of the port and witnessed the activities taking place.
His Excelency the Governor appreciated the grand reception accorded to his entourage and said his government was ready to work with KPA and all other stakeholders of Lapset. He asked the Lapset project Manager to facilitate the sponsorship of 600 students out of 1000 who are yet to benefit from the training. He also requested Lapset to assist the County communities with infrastructure development such as schools and dispensaries.
