Lamu Coutny Executives Visit KPA- Mombasa

Yesterday the 19th October 2017, the entire team of Executives which was on a one week induction course at Mombasa Beach Hotel paid a courtesy call at Kilindini port. The team was lead by the newly, fairly and credibly elected Governor Fahim Yassin Twaha. All the Ministers were present and the Deputy Governor was among the team members.

It was a familiarization tour of port activities, establishing a friendly partnership between Lapset and Kilindini /KPA, to review the Lapset progress with other stakeholders and to exchange ideas concerning both parties.

The delegation was received and hosted by the KPA MD Catherine Wairi, Edward Kamau, Marketing Manager and Engineer Peter Oremo , the Lapset project Manager and other Senior KPA staff.

The hosts were very happy to be visited by the Lamu County Executives and said they were looking forward for a full working cooperation between them. The Engineer commented that he was more than satisfied with the Lapset progress and could confirm that it will start operations as scheduled. He added that the port area needs a further expansion to accommodate the high number of berths. The completion of the first three berths will enable the port to start its operations on time. This will lead to employment of thousands of Lamu County residents.

The team then toured different areas of the port and witnessed the activities taking place.

His Excelency the Governor appreciated the grand reception accorded to his entourage and said his government was ready to work with KPA and all other stakeholders of Lapset. He asked the Lapset project Manager to facilitate the sponsorship of 600 students out of 1000 who are yet to benefit from the training. He also requested Lapset to assist the County communities with infrastructure development such as schools and dispensaries.

Mpeketoni Information Centre

Access to information is all what every citizen want, and that is when the idea of coming up with information centers came to people’s head. Since devolution, citizens have been enjoying government services in their counties. Access to information being one of it, Lamu County Government, through the ICT department decided to fulfill this to its residents by building information centers.

Among the places in Lamu County where this project had been implemented is Mpeketoni, Bahari ward in Lamu west sub-county. The project was meant to bring close government services to the people of Mpeketoni. Since there was a place allocated, a permanent building has been constructed at Ward Administrator’s office; where earlier it was at former Red Cross offices.

A total amount of ksh1.2M was used to cater the cost of the project to completion, with a full setup consisting of furniture, a television, internet and five computers. It was completed since 2015 and been operating from that time to date.
Since information centers were found being effective to people, the county Government of Lamu through the ICT department had already implemented the project to other places like Faza and Kiunga.

Fencing Of Dispensaries

Eight existing primary health facility is set to be fenced in this financial year 2017/2018 by the department of health service, environment and sanitation in Lamu County.
The health facilities which will benefit in this planned project are:-

  1. Matondoni
  2. Kiwayu
  3. Ishakani,
  4. Kiangwe
  5. Tewe
  6. Maisha Masha
  7. Katsakakairu and Moa.

These facilities are from Mkomani, Kiunga, Bahari, Witu and Basuba ward in Lamu County. According to chief officer of Health Mohamed Abubakar, the project will secure the facilities from land grabbers and interference from wild animals.

“This financial year we have planned to fence our dispensaries, we have targets 8 of them, as we all know land is wealth and there is need to secure our lands and to protect our expensive facilities that we have purchased for our health centers by fencing them”.

This project will cost 16 million shillings from county government of Lamu.

Swearing-In Ceremony For Lamu County Executive Committee Members

H.E Lamu County Governor, Fahim Yassin Twaha during the swearing-in ceremony of CECS that took place today 12th October 2017 at Mokowe Headquarters. While speaking to the congregation, He promised to talk to the MPs and Women representatives to submit a bill for salary increment and suitable allowances to the parliament for consideration by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), believing that this will be an effective way to rise the health sector whereby it will stop the regular strikes of the health workers.
He said there is a need to bring specialists in Lamu and also to build houses to accommodate health officers; this will make it suitable for their stay, enough equipment and medicines to provide suitable services to Lamu County residents.
Among the promises that he gave were; to end water shortage by supplying water from Tana River to Lamu, improving youth education through offering scholarships and fairness in bursary allocations, issuing of title deeds to the rightful land owners and compensating the owners whose land was used for Lamu county headquarters offices and to come up with a good building plan for Mokowe town which will lead to development of the town.
The governor thanked the previous CECs team for their sacrifices and commitment in serving Lamu County and urged the new ones to cooperate and work together to bring developments in Lamu County.

Maonyesho Ya Takataka Za Plastiki Katika Kaunti Ya Lamu

Maonyesho ya takataka za plastiki kwa mara ya kwanza yamefanyika katika kaunti ya Lamu kwenye ukumbi wa makavazi ya Lamu.

Maonyesho hayo yaliyofahamika kama Takataka Exhibition Lamu Fort,ni ya kuonyesha taka za plastiki zilizokusanywa katika fuo za bahari na watu wanaojitolea kufanya usafi baharini iliyowajumuisha baadhi ya vijana wa Lamu na wageni wanaoishi Lamu kutoka ngambo kwa ushirikiano na makavazi ya Lamu.

Akizungumza kama mgeni wa hishma katika maonyesho hayo gavana wa Lamu Fahim Twaha alifurahishwa na watu hao kuja na fikra hiyo ya kuhifadhi mazingira na kuwapongeza.

Twaha ametoa wito kwa wakaazi wa Lamu kuhifadhi mazingira na kutotupa taka ovyo ovyo. Wakati huo huo Gavana Twaha ametangaza kuwa atawaajiri kazi vijana waliojitolea kusafisha fuo za bahari wakiongozwa na Hassan Obo aliyejitolea kwa kazi hiyo kwa miaka 18.

Sherehe hiyo pia ilijumuisha wanafunzi wa shule za msingi za Lamu kwa kuwapa mafunzo ya umuhimu wa kuhifadhi mazingira ambapo waliofuzu walikabidhiwa shahada.

Gavana Wa Lamu Fahim Twaha Akiwa Katika Hospitali Ndogo Ya Faza

Gavana wa Lamu Fahim Twaha akiwa katika hospitali ndogo ya Faza akikutana na wafanyikazi wa hospitali hiyo ili kusikia kilio chao kufuatia mgomo unaoendelea. Wakitoa malalamishi yao muhudumu mmoja wa maabara alisema kuwa wao wanafaa kupatiwa marupurupu ya wito wa dharura kama vile wenzao madaktari. Naye gavana Twaha aliwasihi wahudumu hao wa afya kurudi kazini huku akisema kuwa anawashughulikia licha ya kuwa maswala yao yako kwa SRC.

Wavuvi Wa Matondoni Wapata Huduma Za Kawaida Kwa Mashini Za Boti

Idara ya uvuvi kaunti ya Lamu ikiongozwa na mkurugenzi wake Kamalu Shariff ikishirikiana na kampuni ya kuuza mashine za boti ya Captain Andy’s Fishing Supply Ltd wakiwa na wavuvi wa Matondoni ili kupeana huduma za kawaida kwa mashine zilizopeanwa na serekali ya kaunti kwa mkopo.

Huduma hizo zimepeanwa kwa bai nafuu ili kuwasaidia wavuvi hao pamoja na kuwahamasisha dhidi ya kuzifanyia huduma za kawaida mashine hizo kila mda unapohitajika .

Wavui hao wameishukuru kaunti ya Lamu kwa huduma hiyo muhimu . Mashine hizo zilipeanwa kwa mkopo na serekali ya kaunti na sasa kupitia uongozi wa gavana Fahim Twaha ametangaza
kuwa atafutilia mbali madeni hayo.

Msaada Wa Kimapato Wa Ustawi Na Elimu Kutoka Kwa Shirika la Plan International

Nyumba 116 kutoka kaunti ya Lamu zimefuzu baada ya kupokea msaada wa kimapato wa ustawi na elimu kutoka kwa shirika la
Plan International kwa ushirikiano na shirila la USAID chini ya muavuli wa mpango wa “NILINDE”.

Mpango huo wa NILINDE ulikuwa unalenga kuzisaidia familia zenye watoto mayatima na zile ambazo zina watu ambao wako katika hali hatarishi katika kaunti ya Nairobi na Pwani.
Watoto hao pamoja na familia zao wamefaidika na karo za shule,sare pamoja na kupewa mifugo ili kujikimu kimaisha.
Familia hizo 116 ni za kwanza kufuzu kutoka kwa zaidi ya familia 2000 kutoka kaunti ya Lamu.

Akihudhuria sherehe za mahafali kwenye familia hizo gavana wa Lamu Fahim Twaha amewashukuru wahisani hao kwa niaba ya familia zao kwa kazi yao mzuri.
Aidha amewashukuru wazazi kwa kuwakaribisha wahisani hao majumbani mwao.

Wakati huo huo gavana Twaha ameyashukuru mashirika ya Akhghan na World Vision kwa kukubali kuupokea mradi huo ili kuuwendeleza baada ya mda wa watangulizi wao kukamilika.
Wale walionufaika na mradi huo na kufuzu walipokea shada kutoka kwa shirika hilo la Plan International.

Gavana Wa Lamu Akutana Na Wahundumu Wa Afya Katika Hospitali Ya King Fahad

Gavana wa Lamu Fahim Twaha amekutana na wahudumu wa afya katika hospitali ya King Fahad na kutaka kusikia kilio chao kufuatia mgomo wa wauguzi na maafisa wa kiliniki unaoendelea.

Wakitoa malalamishi yao wafanyikazi hao wa afya wamemuelezea gavana Twaha kuwa hawakuridhishwa na mabadiliko yaliyofanywa na tume ya kukadiria mishahara ya wafanyikazi wa umma (SRC)ambapo wameteremshwa daraja.

Aidha wamemuelezea gavana Twaha kuwa tume hiyo ya kukadiria mishahara imewapatia mambo ambayo hawakuitisha.

Wafanyikazi hao wa afya wamemtaka gavana Twaha kuchukua malalamishi yao na kuyawasilisha kwa baraza la magavana nchini  ili yazingatiwe.

Kwa upande wake gavana Twaha amewahakikishia wafanyikazi hao kuwa atafanya kila liwizalo kuhakikisha kuwa matakwa yao yamezingatiwa.

Aidha gavana Twaha ametoa wito kwa  wafanyikazi hao wa afya kutumia njia ya mazungumzo kwanza kabla ya kuchukua hatua za kugoma.

Twaha amesema mlango wake uko wazi na wakati wowote wanapomuhitaji yuko tayari kuwasikiliza.

Baada ya kikao hicho na wafanyikazi wa sekta ya afya katika hospitali ya King Fahad gavana Twaha alifululiza hadi katika hospitali ya Mpeketoni ili kukutana na wafanyikazi wake.

Aidha hapo kesho atatembelea hospitali ndogo ya kaunti huko Faza.

 

Official Opening Of Second Assembly

The Governor of Lamu Fahim Yassin Twaha addressing members of Lamu County Assembly on the official opening of the Second Assembly. H.E emphasized on dealing with fraud and corrupt officers in the county government. He assured proper utilization of the funds allocated to the county. The governor also identified the risk faced by health sector from nurse’s strike and the ongoing clinical officer’s strike which may pause danger to the people of Lamu.

He promised to improve the sector by far. Poverty eradication was also the agenda whereby the governor promised land owners to be issued with tittle deeds so that they can continue with their investment. The governor also touched on improving the water sector by initiating a project that would transfer water from river Tana to Lamu.

Education was greatly addressed where ECDE’s would be issued with computers to introduce the young brains to digitization, improving polytechnics to engage youths in self job appointment was also featured, and not to forget the needy in education by providing equity scholarship and bursaries. A motion on the same to be passed in the Assembly. H.E also touched on improving security in the county government, by providing the government lands for constructions of many police booths that would beef in security. Lastly but not the least, He urged the members to corporate well in making decisions for the people of Lamu.
