Official Reopening of Lamu Fish and Meat Market by H.E. ISSA TIMAMY on 22ND April 2017

Lamu fish and meat market was reopened on 22 April, 2017 by His Excellency the governor Issa Timamy after a one month massive renovation.

According to CEC of finance, strategy and planning Atwaa Salim the renovation of the market cost Ksh. 4 million.

“This market was in pathetic condition but now we have renovated it to the stand” said CEC.

While addressing the public the Lamu gavana Issa Timamy promised Lamu people that he will built another two market in the Island.

“If possible next term, this market is too small I promised you I will build one market at Kashmir and another one at Wiyoni area because we have no space here” said the governor.

Lamu Island has only one public market for fish and meat and another one for vegetables.

Launching of Ishakani Dispensary

Ishakani dispensary is the 6 th completed dispensary in Lamu County by the County Government and two more ongoing in Kiangwi and Bargoni.

The dispensary is to serve the Ishakani residents, area security officers and Kiemboni residents. It was officially opened by H.E Governor on April 11, 2017 accompanied by C.E.C for health, Kombo Mohammed and other County officials.

Before, Ishakani residents depended on Kiunga dispensary which is almost a 15 kilometer. They had to walk to Kiunga for medical services because transportation is a big challenge in the area.

The newly built dispensary with modern equipment and enough medicines will be of a relief to the locals as the service has been brought close to their door step.


This will also reduce congestion at Kiunga dispensary. A male nurse has been posted already and is expected operate with immediate effect.

In his speech, H.E Governor Timamy promised the resident to post a female nurse who will be handling female patients, “since we have brought a male nurse, we will also bring you a female nurse to handle the female patients”.

The nurse was provided with a motorbike by the county government to help in transportation in case of emergencies issues.

Distribution of Seeds to Farmers of Lamu County

More than 13,000 farmers from mpeketoni division on Thursday 6./04/2017 received free seeds from county government ahead of rain season.

The farmers drown from Bahari, Hongwe and Mkunumbi wards of which they received 2 kilo gram of seeds each.

About 11 tons of maize seeds, 1000 kg of cow peas and 1300 kg of green grams were distributed equally to farmers.

Speaking during the official launching of the seeds to farmers at Poromoko village, the deputy governor Eric Mugo said the free seeds distribution exercise is among the long sustainable plan that the county government is trying to put in place so that to address the issue of drought in future.

He argued farmers to work hard while government is there to assist them and asked them to be united and not to be divided by politics.

At the same time the government sent health personnel with the beyond zero mobile clinic at Poromoko as measures to fight cholera outbreak in that area of which most children are affected.

Tens of people from that village turn out to receive treatment and thank county government for that effort.

Skyward Launch flights to Lamu

Passengers arrive at Manda airline in the first day of the Skyward Mombasa-Lamu route launched.

Tourism in Lamu is expected to boost following the launch of skyward express daily flight to Lamu Island.

The airline will operate the Nairobi-Mombasa –Lamu route from Wilson Airport.

Speaking during the launching General Manager of Skyward Abdullahi said the main aim is to connect Lamu County and that of Mombasa.

“What we know is that, many people who live in this place have connection to Mombasa so we know a chunk of people who travel between two counties were getting a lot of problem travelling to Mombasa”, said general manager.

On behalf of the Lamu governor, his deputy Eric Mugo said they are optimistic that the airline will improve and enhance domestic tourism that will create job opportunities to the youth of Lamu.

“We have a number of people who have been willing to visit Lamu but because of the cumbersomeness of the journey probably from Mombasa to this place they have been avoiding to visit Lamu.

Deputy Governor asked the general manager to consider Lamu people whenever opportunities arise for vacancies.

Skyward Express entry to Lamu brings the number of airlines operating flight to six.

This airline comes few weeks after the United King dom reviewed travel advice against Lamu and Manda Island in Lamu county.

Mokowe Town to be Tarmac by Kura

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) will tarmac 15-kilometre road to the Lamu County headquarters Mokowe, Lamu West constituency.

Lamu will be the first county among 47 to have such big project, of which it headquarter, will be tarmac by Kura, a project that will coast sh. 1.2 billion within an urban area. This kind of project by Kura is different from the one of Garsen-Lamu road. Kura Acting Director General Silas Kinoti has said building of the road will begin in the next

three months period.

Addressing journalists shortly after paying a courtesy call to the Governor Issa Timamy at his office in Lamu on Monday, Mr Kinoti said procurement procedures for the road project are in the final stages and it will take almost three years to be completed. Governor of Lamu Issa Timamy with delegation from KURA led by director Ms Lucy Mathenge.

Kura is just concerned with the development and manages roads in all urban areas. Mr Kinoti said, “Once we have a road of such magnitude in an urban area, he believes it will make a lot of difference in the away of uplifting the face of Mokowe town which is the county headquarters of Lamu County”.

Ms Lucy Mathenge, a director at Kura who was also the team leader during the tour of Lamu County, said they also intend to sponsor 10 youth from Lamu to be trained by their able staff. She also said they had also requested the governor of Lamu to offer them office space and as well as a space for building a children’s park.

Governor Timamy thanked Kura for choosing to construct the 15-kilometre road at Mokowe. He said the road will act as a game changer for Lamu in terms of economic and social development.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of the county government and the people of Lamu, I want to sincerely thank Kura for this project that they are going to undertake” said Mr. Timamy. “I want to assure you that as Lamu county government, we shall fully cooperate with you and we shall do all that is within our power to make sure that the project you intend to undertake in Lamu shall be undertaken successfully,” .

Timamy said, he is the most accessible governor in the republic and the doors are opened any time if they would want to see him for any help.

Lamu Vocational Training

The only known training center in Lamu County, Lamu Youths Vocational training; revive after waning for a long period of time.

Since devolution, Lamu youths Vocational training  has flourished due to the hard work of the county government led by H.E Issa Abdalla Timamy, through the department of education, youth and gender.

Education being a first priority, County Government is striving to ensure the institution has all the requirements through collaborating and connecting with different sponsors, to give chance to Lamu youths acquires skills as a one way to protect them from tragedies like drugs and prepare them for their future life.

Earlier, most students who completed their secondary education could not fulfill their dreams to go for further studies due to lack of fees or not passing very well, but the county government managed to offer free courses like masonry, building and construction , electricity, hair and beauty, where the self-sponsored students enjoys the bursaries from county government.

68 sponsored students who completed their courses were taken to Nairobi for 3months industrial attachment sponsored by County

Government and GIZ (company that specializes in international development).

New hair and beauty classroom by county government equipped by the Agahan Foundation with modern equipment was officially opened by the governor. Mostly the female students benefitted from it. This shows that county government is responsible for the youths, where both the male and female youth enjoys the right to education.

Azienda Generale Italiana Petroli (AGIP) — General Italian Oil Company to build desalination plant in Siu – Pate Island

Residents of Siu – Pate Island will soon get fresh water from desalination plant which will be built by Italian Oil Company.

The project is been funded by Agip (Azienda Generale Italiana Petroli—General Italian Oil Company).

The contact of this project is awarded to Basis Africa limited is set to be completed in a six month time and will produce 2500 liters of fresh water every hour.

“We have already done the drilling and now we have ordered the equipment from U.S.A to start the work anytime”, said Iain Brewster who is the director of the Basis Africa.

On Monday Lamu governor Issa Timamy accompanied by Italian ambassador to Kenya Mauro Masoni with the General Manager of Agip to Kenya Lucker Dragoneti visited Siu village.

Lamu governor Issa Timamy said water is a big challenge in Siu village Pate-island which all underground water is saline.

“This is a timely project for the people in this area, so on my on beahalf, on behalf of the county government of Lamu and on behalf in particular of the resident of this village they really want to appreciate the very kind gesture of allocating the project here“ said Timamy.

Timamy assured the Italians that their friendship will continue and he will make sure that all that is required by way of authority and licensing is to be obtained in time.

He further said, the people of Siu have been waiting for a very long time and it is time to get the project started.

Addressing the gathering at Siu, Italian ambassador to Kenya Mauro Masoni thanked the governor and the representative of Agip for implementing the project in Siu.

“I think it is extremely important to realize a project like this in a very dry island and I believe with this project your life will improve,” said the ambassador.

The Italian ambassador requested the people of Kenya to avoid any form of violence ahead of the forthcoming general election.

“This is a democratic country so you are free to vote for the candidate that you like, the important thing is to avoid any form of violence, “said the Italian Ambassador  

He further said that if violence occurs, it’s the ordinary people that will suffer and projects like these will not be implemented any more.

Akiongea na wanahabari baada ya wanaodaiwa kunyakuwa ardhi hizo kufika mbele ya tume hiyo ili kujitetea naibu wa mwenyekiti wa tume hiyo Abigael Mbagaya Mukolwe amesema ni muhimu kwa sehemu za vyanzo vya maji kuhifadhiwa ili watu wasikose maji ya kunywa hasa wakati huu ambapo kumekuwa na ukame.
Mbagaya amesema katika kikao cha leo stakabadhi zilizowasilishwa zilikuwa na kasoro sihaba huku nakala nyingine zikiwa hazina sahihi ya msajili wa ardhi.
Ardhi ambazo zimesajiliwa kwa jina la kampuni kama vile Honey moon holdings ltd ziliwakilishwa na mawakili, ambao wengi wao waliiyomba tume ya kitaifa ya ardhi kuwapa mda zaidi wa kutafuta stakabadhi nyengine.
Wamiliki wa ardhi hizo walitakiwa kufika na letter of allotment, minutes approving allocation,copy of PDP, copy of a deed plan and copy of the title.
Nae msaidizi wa kibinafsi wa aliyekuwa mbunge wa Lamu magharibi Fahim Twaha, Paul Wainaina Kimani aliyemuakilisha alikuwa na wakati mgumu wa kueleza uhusiano wake na mteja wake huku akitakiwa aende kutafuta kutoka kwa mteja wake vipi alipata hati miliki hizo, huku tume ikiamuru kutojengwa jingo lolote katika ardhi hizo anazodaiwa kuchukua kinyume cha sheria.
Takriban watu mia moja wametakiwa kufika kwa tume ya kitaifa ya ardhi nchini ili kueleza ni vipi walipata hati miliki ya ardhi hizo ambazo ni vyanzo vya maji katika kaunti ya Lamu.
Tume hiyo itaendelea na vikao vyake hapo kesho katika ukumbi wa Lamu fort.

Recreational Playground for Kids at King Fahad Hospital

Kids can now smile and play freely from the recreational play ground set outside king Fahad hospital. This is an initiative from H.E Governor as promised.
