Integrated transport infrastructure Master Plan for Lamu Port City

 Arafat asked investors to help Lamu inorder to develop in terms of infrastructure. One of the consultants who drafted the plan urged Lamu leaders to be very careful with infrastructure and to keep Lamu the way it is.

In that workshop, the participant raised the concern of poor infrastructure, insecurity as well as economic activities of the Lamu people which will be affected by the project.

This integrated Transport Master Plan will:-

  • Formulate a technically, economically feasible and socially/environmentally sustainable master plan that will ensure that the project components in Lamu are efficiently connected while allowing for adequate expansion in future.
  • Develop a long-term transportation vision and overall transport network philosophy to support Lamu County’s future allocation of population and employment growth.
  • Provide a baseline for land –use planning, infrastructural development and infrastructure improvement.
  • Provide practical planning tools to assist the county government in identifying, prioritizing and implementing needed improvement to its transportation network in an efficient and effective manner.



Lapsset Corridor Development Authority Lamu County Visit

Lappset Corridor Development Authority chairman Ambassador Francis Muthaura reaffirmed partnership with County Government of Lamu ahead of completion of the major LAPSSET project. Speaking to the officials of Lamu County Government after paying a courtesy call to the office of the Lamu Governor at Mokowe headquarters, Ambassador Muthaura said they require good cooperation with county government in order to realize good results.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that the project impacts on the community positively and through working with county leadership it will be realized Muthaura said.Lamu port will be the biggest in the East of Africa which will come up with the highway and railway to link South Sudan and Ethiopia through Isiolo County.

According to the Lappset CEO Silvester Kasuku, the first berth terminal will be completed in mid-2018 and all the remaining three terminals will be ready by 2020. He asked Lamu people who do business in Mombasa to start relocating to Lamu and explorer the big opportunity that is opening up.

Meanwhile the Deputy Governor Abdulhakim Aboud asked LAPSSET authority to partner with them in securing land that is planned for development.

Salama Fikira Company trains security guards in lamu-east

31 youth from Lamu East Sub County who underwent security guard training have passed out yesterday in a colorful ceremony at Siyu camp in Patte Island.

The youth for the last two weeks underwent a world-class training from the international security farm known as Salama Fikira.Salama Fikira security Company contracted to provide security for Zarara Gas and Oil Company which is expected to drill gas at Patte Island.The youth now will be employed by the Salama Fikira Company to provide security for zarara gas and Oil Company which has discovered the gas at Goda area between Siu and Faza in Patte Island.
According to the security consultant of the firm, 90% of its staff will be from the community living on the Island and Lamu County as a whole.The program is part of an initiative which the Zarara Company pledged to undertake in Lamu East Sub County as a way of giving back to the society.

Representing Lamu county government, Lamu East sub County administrator Shee Kupi on behalf of the county government, thanked the company and assured them with the corporation and asked the youth to work hard and maintain discipline while on their line of duty.

A little girl undergoes a henna painting during this years Cultural Festival. Henna mainly is mostly applied to women. Henna is a dye prepared from the plant Lawsonia inermis. 




H.E Governor Fahim Yassin Twaha with Indian High Commissioner Suchitra Durai  attended a gala dinner at Lamu fort on 17th November 2017.


The event was full of local cultural displays. Local Swahili women displaying a traditional cereal grinder for making delicacies such as bhajia.



Its all set for Lamu Cultural Festival that started on 16th November 2017. This is the 17th edition of celebrations of swahili culture.

Message of condolence to Nyeri County Governement

Waziri mpya wa Afya,mazingira na usafi wa jamii Bw. Raphael Munywa hapo jana alikabidhiwa rasmi mamlaka na mtangulizi wake anayeondoka Dakatari Mohamed Kombo katika majengo ya hospitali ya King Fahad kaunti ya Lamu.

Akizungumza wakati wakumkabidhi rasmi mamlaka waziri huyo mpya, daktari Kombo alieleza matumaini yake na imani yake kwa serekali ya sasa kwa kuboreshwa kwa hospitali za Lamu zaidi, na kueleza kuwa yeye binafsi aliwahi kufanya kazi na gavana wa sasa Fahim Yassin Twaha alipokuwa mbunge wa Lamu magharibi na kumtaja kuwa alikuwa mchapa kazi.

Na kwa upande wake waziri Munywa amempongeza daktari Kombo kwa bidii yake na kusema kuwa bado atashirikiana naye ili kusaidia watu wa Lamu na kuahidi kuwa ataboresha huduma katika hospitali hiyo.
Hafla hiyo imehudhuriwa na wafanyikazi na wakuu wa idara mbali mbali za afya pamoja na wakaazi wa Lamu.

Lamu Youth Vocational Training Centre Gets Funded

Tuesday 24/10/2017, the Aga Khan Foundation, through funding from the European Union has officially handed over equipment to the six Lamu Vocational training centres at Lamu Youth Vocational Training Centre.

The project have been implemented after a survey conducted by the Aga khan foundation on Vocational centres where lack of adequate equipment and materials was found being a challenge to the extent that the delivery of quality employable skills to youth was extensively compromised.

The equipment: Tailoring, computing and sport items cost Ksh 3million, these will enhance better quality of training. According to Mr. Atrash Mohammed, the Project Manager for coast region,

“God willing, November or Early December we will donate more equipment for masonry, carpentry, electrical and mechanical engineering costing Ksh 5 million for Lamu and Garissa County.”

220 Lamu County Government and GIZ sponsored students from Lamu Vocational training centre who pursued different fields graduated. During the ceremony, Mr Atrash told the student that after finalizing there courses they should be able to practice their skills and they will be connected to business entities and companies for their internship program where ksh 3 million will be used for the industries that the student will be attached.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor Abdulhakim Bwana, Mkomani ward administrator Yahya Ahmed, CO Education Hafswa Diffin, Aga Khan Foundation Officials and other County Government officials.

In his speech the Deputy Governor urged the beneficiaries to be thankful for the donors for the sacrifices. He also urged the trainers to provide specific and unique trainings concerning the culture and heritage of Lamu which will be employable skills and insisted the graduates to use their skills to acquire their living.
