The visiting delegation from Coast region Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), earlier today held an emersion session with technical teams from the Trade and Agriculture departments.The meeting explored opportunities around Mango and Maize farming and processing, Special Economic Zone (SE2)/Industrial Park among other areas of investment in Lamu.

CECM Trade and Industrialization, Hon. Josephat Musembi later led the team on a field trip at Githure area in Hongwe Ward exploring possible sites for a fruit processing plant. The KAM team is on a fact finding mission to see the viability of the 9.5 acres of land at Githure area set aside by the County Government for fruit processing and other industries .

Investor roadshows are part of a larger plan by the Lamu county government to initiate partnerships with local investors to showcase business and investment opportunities in Lamu County.

The KAM team was led by Mr.Rashid Milly, Board of Directors KAM, KAM chairman Coast Chapter Mr Shafiq Ahmed Makrani and the Vice Chair Abdalla Athman, Mr. Mohamed Azeem,Milly Group 2; Mr. Abdulmajid Salim,Milly Group among others.

The County, through its Department of Trade has embarked on creation of a robust trade and investment policy that seeks to create a conducive business environment and eliminate bureaucracies and encourage local firms to take advantage of Lamu’s opportunities, including those accruing from Lamu Port operation.

Also in attendance was the MCA Hongwe Ward Hon. James Komu, Chairman Public Service Board Mr. Abdalla Fadhil, CO Trade Atwah Salim among other senior County officials.
