Deputy Governor His Excellency Abdulhakim Aboud received a delegation from Kenya Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Council (KENTTEC), a State corporation in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Co-operatives in his office. They held a consultative meeting on the establishment of the North Coast Regional Coordination Unit.
Lamu County is still adversely affected by tsetse menace which has affected livestock production in the area.
The County Director of Agriculture, Livestock and Co-operatives, Dr. Jamila Mitsanze complimented KENTTEC for great work in tsetse and trypanosomiasis management through activities such as sensitization of farmers group on tsetse and trypanosomiasis eradication, support to livestock spraying through issuance of insecticides/ acaricides and spraying pumps to farmers group and deployment of insecticide impregnated targets with community in Pate, Faza, Siyu, Tchundwa, Bwajumwali, Shanga and Kizingitini villages in Pate Island.
The Deputy Governor vowed to strengthen partnership between KENTTEC and the County Government in eradicating tsetse flies and trypanosomiasis in the County.
