Lamu County Government is equipping its health facilities with additional specialized diagnostic and critical care equipment.
Through the Department of Health, the County has procured Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds to shore up its intensive care infrastructure.
This infrastructure complements the Maternity High Dependency Unit to be commissioned Monday next week 30th November 2020 in Partnership with the Safaricom Foundation .
2 ventilators, a monitor and oxygen cylinders also form part of the new consignment while transport logistics have been beefed up to replenish oxygen supply, as a stop-gap measure, pending acquisition of oxygen plants for Lamu County and Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospitals which awaits the passing of the supplementary budget.
Speaking on the new equipment, Governor Fahim Twaha said: “The County is committed to making significant improvements in the availability and readiness of critical equipment, infrastructure and medical technologies to facilitate service delivery and critical emergency services.”
Part of the equipment is already in the County, with some on the way.
