Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata held a consultative meeting with Lamu County leaders at the behest of President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss issues affecting the region.
Led by Lamu County Governor H.E Fahim Yasin Twaha, the leaders agreed to build collective synergy to deliver President Uhuru Kenyatta’s agenda in Lamu, including development, political stability, security and drumming support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) .
The successful meeting was held at Uhuru na Kazi building in Mombasa and attended by: National Police Service Commission Chair, Mr. Eliud Kinuthia HSC; Lamu County Commissioner Mr. Simon Macharia, Lamu County Women Representative Hon.Capt.Ruweida Obo, Lamu West Member of Parliament Hon.Stanley Muthama, Lamu County Assembly Speaker and Deputy Hon. Abdul Kassim and Hon.Kimani Njuguna; Lamu County Assembly Clerk Dr. Mboche Wanyoike, Hon. Issa Timamy and Ms.Virginia Wangui.
Specifically, the leaders committed to marshalling the resources required to pass the BBI Bill by the County Assembly, availing the abridged version of the BBI document to the public and galvanizing grassroot support towards the BBI.
They singled out the County revenue share proposed by the BBI Bill as a welcome addition that could trigger County economies, and it’s promise to foster shared unity, political balance and tranquility as vital for Kenya.
