BACK TO SCHOOL STARTS WITH LAMU COUNTY GIVING FULL SCHOLARSHIP CHEQUES IN LAMU WEST

All students from Hongwe and Mkunumbi wards from Lamu West and are currently studying under Lamu County Government scholarship program, have received their scholarship cheques to facilitate for their tuition and other expenses.

The exercise which was spearheaded by CECM Education Hon. Thairu together with County Board Chairman Mr. Athman Abdi and the board CEO Mrs. Maliha Mohamed delivered the cheques at Hongwe and Mkunumbi ward Administrators respectively.

“We are here to fulfill our education promise that was made to our children by Governor Fahim. The Governor promised all students from Lamu that whoever scores 300 marks and above in KCPE he/she automatically qualifies for a four year full scholarship courtesy of Lamu County Government” Said Hon. Thairu as he handed over cheques of Hongwe Ward students who study outside the county.

Speaking at Mkunumbi Ward Administrators office, Bursary Board Chair Mr. Abdi thanked HE Governor Fahim for his commitment in sustaining the scholarship program and further committed to the Lamu residents that the board shall remain impartial during award of scholarships and cheques.

“As a board we have been awarding full scholarships to those students that don’t meet the cut off mark for scholarship award. The Governor gave a special consideration to students who hail from the marginalized communities as well as those that are disadvantaged to be eligible for enrollment in the full scholarship program” Added Mr. Badi.

The scholarships cheques were given to students who school outside the county in Witu, Bahari, Hongwe and Mkunumbi wards respectively. Today, the county government shall give cheques in Hindi and Mkomani wards respectively before going to Lamu East for the same awarding.
