Serekali ya Kaunti ya Lamu kupitia Idara ya Afya imezindua rasmi mpango wakukabiliana na magonjwa ya kuharisha na ugonjwa wa malaria ikiwa ni njia moja wapo ya kujitayarisha ili kupambana na makali ya mvua ya elnino inayotarajiwa kunyesha hivi karibuni.

Akizindua rasmi mpango huo kwa wakaazi wa Mokowe katika makao makuu ya afisi za kaunti, Gavana Issa Timamy amesema Serekali yake imeweka mikakati kabambe ili kuhakikisha kuwa wakaazi wake wako na afya mzuri na salama.

Aidha, Gavana Timamy amewasihi wakaazi wa wote wa kaunti ya Lamu kutojenga katika maeneo ya mapito ya maji na kuongeza kuwa huenda wakalazimika kubomoa nyumba ambazo zimejengwa juu ya njia za maji huku akitoa mfano wa eneo la Mokowe ambapo nyumba kadhaa zilisombwa na maji.

Kati ya mwezi Aprili na Julai Idara ya Afya imenakili visa 6,600 vya magonjwa ya kuharisha inayoletwa na maji machafu ya kusimama.

Vifaa hivyo ni pamoja na machine za kisasa zakupulizia dawa ya kuuwa mbu, neti za mbu pamoja na dawa za kuweka kwa maji yakunywa.

Waliohudhuria hafla hiyo fupi ni pamoja na afisa Mkuu wa wafanyikazi Abdulnasir Issa, Waziri wa Afya Dkt. Mbarak Bahajaj, wakurugenzi wa Afya pamoja na wafanyikazi wengine.

Talanta Hela under 19 girl’s tournament has kicked off this morning in Witu Ward with 8 teams competing for individual slots to be part of the official County under 19 girls’ team.

Tomorrow, Talanta Hela U_19 tournament will be played at Muungano grounds in Mpeketoni before moving to Hindi Ward on sunday.

Talanta Hela U_19 tournament seeks to identify the best female footballers who will be enlisted to represent the county at the regional games with the best two teams expected to play during the Jamhuri Day national celebrations in Nairobi.

County Government of Lamu has already completed Talanta Hela U_19 boys tournament and the team awaits to compete in the regional games in September.

County Government of Lamu under the stewardship of H.E Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has been sponsoring Talanta Hela tournament as part of nurturing and promoting sports amongst youths as well as create alternative source of revenue for the youths.

Today’s kickoff was graced by Youth and Sports CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga who was accompanied by Chief Officer Md. Hafwa Difini and Sports Officer Peter Ndichu.

Kenya Volleyball Federation Lamu Branch Chair Mr. Gabriel Kariuki together with the newly elected KVF Lamu Branch board members paid a courtesy call on Sports CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga on Tuesday this week at the County Headquarters in Mokowe.

The meeting delved on how KVF and County Government of Lamu will work together towards reviving volleyball sport in Lamu.

Hon. Owanga said at the meeting that County Government of Lamu is actively supporting and strengthening many sporting activities as part of fulfilling H.E. Governor Issa Timamy promise in nurturing and strenthening sports activities across the county.

The Department of Youth and Sports promised to assit the newly elected officials in ensuring their board is fully affiliated to KVF, provision of volleyball equipment to teams, training of volleyball referees’, improvement of volleyball infrastructure and supporting local teams to participate in regional and national championships.

County Youth and Sports Chief Officer Md. Hafswa Difini affirmed that her Department will continue growing talents in sports and creative arts as a sustainable program of employment creation.

KVF Chair Mr. Kariuki thanked Governor Timamy for his evident commitment in supporting and reviving volleyball sports which had been neglected and ensuring the county is able to produce strong teams that can compete at the top level.

Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy EGH, OGW attending COG full Council meeting chaired by H.E Anne Waiguru to discuss issues affecting Counties. Governors will receive and consider the Land Housing and Urban Development Committee’s recommendations on the proposed market development program, preparedness of #DevolutionConference2023, and the legislative analysis of the proposed County Governments (Amendment) Bill, 2023 among others.

After dancing their way through to the finals of national dancing competitions, the 19 dancers from Bahati Njema Primary School in Mkunumbi Ward, had an opportunity to grace the colourful Lamu West bursary disbursement luncheon at Mokowe Headquarters on Friday.

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW among other distinguished guests were entertained with edgy contemporary choreography from the teens, who finished as second runners up in the just concluded coast region music festivals, winning a place to represent coast region at the national finals in Nyeri.

The pupils’ who were sponsored by County Government of Lamu to take part in the regional competition, expressed their optimism in pushing the boundaries through choreography as a tool to educate the masses on the importance of wildlife conservation through their song ‘Wanyama Pori Hazina’

Governor Timamy who was thrilled by the entertainment, committed to support the pupils’ towards ensuring they take part in the national competition and further committed to keep his promise of nurturing talents among students and the youths since it has been proven the youth can earn their living through their talents and develop themselves financially and socially.

During the luncheon, County Government of Lamu disbursed a total of Sh. 11.361 million to 3,246 students from Lamu West Sub-County.

A total of 3,246 students from Lamu West Sub-County are a happy lot after the County Government of Lamu awarded them school bursaries worth Sh. 11.361 million.

Speaking at Mokowe County Headquarters during the official launch of bursary disbursement cheques where all heads of secondary schools from Lamu West were invited, Lamu Governor H.E., Issa Timamy EGH, OGW said students who were needy would benefit immensely from the funds by being able to remain in school uninterrupted.

“This life transforming initiative is part of my education agenda. Today we have collectively distributed Sh. 11.361 million benefitting 3,246 students, thus contributing a lot to the social development of our County,” reiterated the ANC Party leader.

The Governor further noted that his administration had already disbursed Sh. 3.2 million to Lamu East Sub-County and expressed his commitment towards supporting the education sector across the county since it’s the only way the Government can change the lives of our children and support the dreams of bright but needy students from Lamu.

Presently, County Government of Lamu is sponsoring 2,245 students under full scholarship, 309 student from the marginalized communities of Sanye and Boni and 3,246 enrolled under bursaries.

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs)present lauded the Governor’s efforts in making sure more needy students get bursaries to make them stay in school.

During the disbursement of funds ceremony, the Governor was accompanied by his Deputy H.E Raphael Munyua, CECMs, Chief Officers, MCAs led by Deputy Speaker Hon. Paul Kimani, Hindi MCA Hon. James Njaaga, Mkomani MCA Hon. Shekhuna Abbas, Bahari Ward MCA Hon. Francis Gakonga, Witu MCA Suleiman Farah and nominated MCAs Hope and Asha.

Principal Secretary (PS), State Department of Co-operatives, Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development, Hon. Patrick Kilemi, has called on farmers and fishermen from Lamu County to come together by forming cooperatives in order to scale up efforts to promote farming and fishing industries in the county.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW, the PS acknowledged the significant steps being undertaken by County Government of Lamu towards supporting small holder farmers and fisher communities by organizing and emphasizing on them to join cooperatives for collective benefits that come in handy by being a member.

He reassured farmers and fishermen from Lamu that by adopting the cooperative model and working together, they too have a tremendous potential for further growth, particularly in meeting the demand for the county and the country.

On his part, Lamu Governor underscored the significance of cooperatives as a key component of empowering farmers and fishermen and highlighted his administration commitment as a policymaker to implement various interventions that protect farmers/fishermen from extortion by middlemen.

These interventions include infrastructure development to strengthen exisiting cooperatives so as to ensure members benefit from special discounts, training, services, grants, loans and sometimes even a dividend check at the end of each year.

ANC Party Leader and Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy, hosted H.E President William Ruto in Lamu on Thursday to launch the second phase of KEMFSED grants for community projects grants worth over Sh520 million to improve the livelihoods of coastal communities at Mokowe in Lamu County.

The grants will benefit 471 groups in Lamu and the four other counties participating in the project: Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale and Tana River counties.

President Ruto presented a cheque of Sh63,294,150 for Lamu directly to representatives of the grassroots groups.

The County Government of Lamu has set aside a budget of Ksh. 100 million towards establishing an Aggregation and Industrial Park in the County.

According to Lamu Governor H.E., Issa Timamy EGH, OGW the county will also provide land and infrastructure towards the establishment of the industrial parks and aggregations that will in turn help towards creating employment opportunities and increase value addition on products.

“We are not only going to create employment for those who will be working at the facility but local farmers and their employees,” said Governor Timamy, adding that this will help increase the level of income within the County.

Towards this end, the State Department for Industry on behalf of Lamu and other counties has officially invited bids for the construction of Proposed County Aggregation & Industrial Parks.

The construction of industrial parks will create value addition and aggregation on all farm produce before getting to local and international markets.

The investment has been termed to be a game changer towards unlocking Lamu’s economic potential. Key sectors that Lamu County will prioritize for value addition include; fruits, milk, fish, beef and nuts.

Lamu Governor H.E., Issa Timamy EGH, OGW, has called for prudent utilization of resources by County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) and the Chief Officers (COs), for improved efficiency in service delivery.

Governor Timamy has further asked the County Government Departmental heads to dedicate their work to improving performance in their departments and embrace with transparency and accountability to help the county increase it’s revenue from Sh. 155M to Sh. 350M during this financial year.

The Governor made the remarks while attending a three day Lamu County Performance Review Programme for the 2022/2023 Financial year and in preparedness for the implementation of the 2023/2024 financial year budget that was held in Mpeketoni, Bahari Ward, County.

During the retreat, Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers and Directors put forward clear targets and SMART performance indicators in line with the budget for the FY 2023/24.

“This Performance and Review Programme on our achievements in the last financial year and what we purpose to achieve during the next financial year, is key in generating a culture of result-oriented management within my administration and in the delivery of services to our people” said Governor Timamy.

During this FY 2023/2024 County Government of Lamu seeks to double it’s revenue from Sh. 155M to Sh.350M and this will be achieved through sealing poor systems and leakages, introduction of a digitised revenue collection system and cascading the county’s resolve to seal all the loopholes that interfere with the optimal use of the revenue generated.

The three day retreat was attended by Deputy Governor H.E., Raphael Munyua, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, CEC Members, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief Officers and Directors.
