TRADERS CELEBRATE AS GOVERNOR TIMAMY UNVEILS HONGWE FRESH PRODUCE MARKET

Jubilant traders in Hongwe Ward, Lamu West, on Wednesday celebrated the official opening of the Hongwe Fresh Produce Market, commissioned by Governor Issa Timamy, EGH, OGW.

The modern market will serve around 100 traders who for years lacked a proper facility to sell their produce. With its organized stalls and improved infrastructure, the market is expected to boost trade, enhance hygiene, and create more value for farm products while opening up Hongwe town for new economic opportunities.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Timamy said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to empowering small-scale farmers and traders by investing in development projects that directly uplift livelihoods.

Residents praised the facelift, noting that the market will not only improve incomes but also strengthen Hongwe’s position as a growing commercial hub.

The Governor, who was in Hongwe Ward for a development tour, was accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Mbarak Mohamed, CECMs, Chief Officers, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnassir Issa, among other senior officials.
