Lamu County Commemorates World AIDS Day with Half Marathon and Community Engagement

Lamu County joined the world in commemorating World AIDS Day at Mkunguni Square with a series of impactful activities aimed at raising awareness about HIV/AIDS.

The day’s event began with a half marathon from Lamu Old Town to Shella, highlighting this year’s theme, “It’s a Race Against Time”, which focuses on promoting the health and well-being of men and boys.

A total of 27 men participated in the marathon, showing solidarity for the cause.

He also emphasized that the county would not allow civil society groups supporting or promoting homosexuality, underscoring the commitment to values that align with the local community’s perspective on HIV prevention.

The event in Lamu was a significant moment for local residents, as it highlighted both the progress made and the work that still remains in addressing the HIV epidemic.

In attendance were Director of Public Health Mohamed ABUBAKAR, Director of Alcohol Control Board Lamu West Kaviha Khamis, Chairlady of Lamu Press CBO Khadija Juma among others.
