Lamu County Reviews Spatial Plan Using Go Blue Framework

Lamu County has taken a major step towards shaping its future development with the review and revision of the County Spatial Plan (CSP) 2016–2026.

The workshop, held today at Mwanaarafa Hall, focused on aligning the county’s growth with the Go Blue land–sea planning framework.

The Lamu County Spatial Plan, first developed in 2016, was the county’s inaugural statutory framework aimed at guiding development in a structured and coordinated manner.

It outlined strategies for infrastructure expansion, provision of social services, economic development, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation.

Speaking during the opening session, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Physical Planning, and Urban Development, Tashrifa Bakari, emphasized that the review is a continuation rather than a conclusion of the planning journey.

“This process is not ending it is actually a continuation of the same as we plan for the future,” she said.

The reviewed draft is expected to be officially handed over to Governor Issa Timamy tomorrow who championed for this process, marking a significant milestone in charting the county’s development pathway.

The integration of the Go Blue framework is expected to strengthen land and marine spatial planning in Lamu, ensuring sustainable use of the county’s vast natural resources while balancing infrastructure, conservation, and community needs.
