GOVERNOR TIMAMY HANDS OVER KARI IMPROVED KIENYEJI POULTRY TO BOKO YOUTH GROUP IN WITU

Governor Issa Timamy has officially handed over a KARI improved Kienyeji poultry project to Boko Youth Group in Witu Ward under the KEMFSED Phase III programme. The group received 646 layer chicks, aimed at addressing low household incomes, food and nutritional insecurity, and over-dependence on near-shore fisheries.

The initiative promotes poultry egg production as a complementary livelihood, providing youth with income-generating opportunities while reducing pressure on marine resources. It includes construction of poultry houses, provision of feeds, vaccines, and other essential inputs.

During the handover, the Governor urged the group to take good care of the birds to ensure sustainability. Members expressed delight, saying the project will enhance livelihoods, food security, and economic resilience in Witu Ward.
