A SIGH OF RELIEF FOR LAMU STUDENTS AS GOVERNOR TIMAMY RESTORES COUNTY SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES

‎After a long period without county-issued scholarships, students across Lamu County can now smile once again following a major announcement by Governor H.E. Issa Timamy that the County Government of Lamu will roll out 1,140 scholarships and extend bursary support to over 5,000 students starting next month.

‎Speaking on Friday morning in Witu during a three-day development tour, the Governor revealed that the county has allocated Ksh. 70 million for the program in the current financial year, describing the move as a significant relief for families struggling with the rising cost of education.

‎Governor Timamy dismissed earlier rumors suggesting that his administration had refused to issue scholarships, clarifying that the county had been guided by a previous decision from the Controller of Budget, which indicated that scholarships were not within the mandate of county governments. He noted that the new development restores hope to thousands of learners and reaffirms the county’s commitment to investing in education.

‎He was flanked by his Deputy, Hon. Mbarak Mohamed, and County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) led by the Education CECM, Hon. Sebastian Owanga, as he made the announcement.

‎CECM Hon. Owanga urged students and parents to access the application form through the county website at www.lamu.go.ke with the application deadline set for 2nd February 2026.
