Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Monday issued coxswain certificates to Kiwayu fishermen in a move aiming to reduce cases of harassment by Kenya Coast Guards Services and Kenya Maritime Authority.

The coxswains, whom the majority cannot afford the courses, were trained free of charge by the County Government of Lamu.

“With a well-trained and certified coxswain population in Lamu, this would drastically reduce the number of accidents and loss of life,” noted the governor.

The governor is in Lamu East on a development tour where he has been commissioning and inspecting county government projects.
