LAMU CHARTS NEW ECONOMIC PATH AS INVESTORS, EXPERTS ENGAGE IN STRATEGIC TALKS
A stakeholder engagement meeting between a World Bank-contracted consultant KEIOS Development and the Lamu County Government’s Department of Trade has been held to chart a path for sustainable economic growth.
The meeting, chaired by Issa Timamy (EGH, OGW), focused on developing a strategic framework to strengthen Lamu’s creative and cultural industries while improving its appeal as a place to live, invest, and visit.
The consultant is expected to propose viable models and reforms to unlock investment opportunities and enhance trade in the county. Discussions also emphasized the need to promote authentic Lamu products and support local entrepreneurs.
Governor Timamy expressed optimism about the collaboration, reaffirming the county government’s full support and commitment to implementing practical recommendations from the final report.
He underscored the importance of homegrown solutions, noting that strengthening local industries and attracting investors will be key to positioning Lamu as a competitive economic and tourism hub.
In attendance was Trade CECM Hon. Aisha Miraj, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, CoS Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, and Trade Chief Officer Md. Joyce Murimi and KEIOS Development Consulting team.
