Lamu County Accelerates Clean Energy Agenda with High-Mast Solar Lights
The County Government of Lamu is taking significant steps towards a sustainable and clean energy future through the ongoing installation of high-mast solar lights in key Informal Settlements across the county.
The installation, part of the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP), is currently underway in Mokowe, Matondoni, Witu, Faza, and Wiyoni.
These solar-powered lights are expected to improve security, support local economic activities during the night, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
The initiative is led by the CEC Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Infrastructure, Energy, Water, Natural Resources, and Public Works Tashrifa Bakari, which is focused on transforming Lamu into a beacon of clean energy innovation.
By utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar power, the department aims to reduce the county’s carbon footprint, promote environmental conservation, and provide cost-effective lighting solutions for public spaces.
H.E the Governor, who has championed the region’s clean energy transition, has emphasized the importance of renewable energy in addressing both immediate and long-term energy needs.
Under his leadership, the county has committed to adopting sustainable energy solutions, positioning Lamu as a leader in green energy within the county.
This development aligns with global efforts to combat climate change by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting environmentally friendly energy alternatives.
