Lamu Governor Issa Timamy Distributes Fishing Equipment to Local Fishermen.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy today officiated the distribution of fishing-related tools at the KPA jetty to over 300 fishermen from Lamu Central.
The initiative is part of the governor’s ongoing efforts to empower local fishermen and improve the fishing industry in the region.
Speaking at the event, Governor Timamy shared his vision of equipping every fisherman in Lamu County with an outboard engine machine by the end of his term.
He encouraged the fisheries department to continue purchasing additional machines once the fishermen begin repaying the revolving fund used to finance the purchase of the tools.
“We have bought these machines at market prices through a revolving fund and are offering them to you at subsidized prices, and this intiative will significantly improve the livelihoos of our fishermen.” said the governor.
The tools distributed to the fishermen included fish finders, cooler boxes, fishing lines and hooks, and outboard engine machines.
Governor Timamy emphasized that the goal is to enhance productivity and increase the income of local fishing communities.
Calvin Gwako, a representative from KCB Retail Banking, also addressed the occasion, highlighting the potential of the revolving fund to create new opportunities and boost local income.
He further stressed the importance of continued collaboration between all stakeholders to unlock the full potential of the opportunities available to the community.
The distribution event marks a significant step towards supporting Lamu’s fishing sector and fostering sustainable growth in the local economy.
