Lamu MAT Clinic Seeks Community Support for Feeding Program Amid Progress in Treatment Initiatives
Lamu MAT Clinic has made notable strides in its mission to support individuals overcoming opioid addiction, with a total of 509 clients enrolled from both Lamu and Faza.
The clinic, which provides methadone-assisted treatment (MAT), has already seen significant success, including the issuance of national ID cards to 153 clients and MAT-specific ID cards to 179 others, with more clients still in the process of receiving theirs.
Dr. Mbarak Bahajaj, the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health, expressed his deep appreciation for the county government’s ongoing support of the clinic’s initiatives.
He also called on the broader community to come together to ensure the program’s sustainability.
“We have seen remarkable progress in our efforts, and we are grateful for the goodwill shown by the county government. However, we need more help to ensure that our clients can continue to access the treatment they need,” Dr. Bahajaj said.
The MAT program has not only provided vital treatment but has also contributed to a marked reduction in criminal activities within the community, underscoring the positive social impact of addiction recovery.
As a next step in supporting the well-being of its clients, the clinic is intending to launch a feeding program to assist those undergoing treatment.
The program is crucial for ensuring that clients have the necessary nutrition to continue their daily methadone regimen.
The clinic is calling on well-wishers and the local community to contribute to this initiative.
With ongoing support, Lamu MAT Clinic aims to continue making a positive impact on public health and safety, while further improving the quality of life for those in recovery.
