WITU DAIRY FARMERS GET MAJOR BOOST AS GOVERNOR TIMAMY DELIVERS MILK TRUCK
Witu Ward has received a major boost in dairy farming following the donation of a milk collection truck and dairy equipment by the County Government. The Witu Livestock Cooperative Society is the main beneficiary of the initiative. The 5,000-litre capacity milk collection truck will be used to collect milk from smallholder farmers across various collection centres, improving efficiency and access to markets.
Governor Issa Timamy, who presided over the handover ceremony, also issued aluminium milk collection cans to cooperative members to enhance hygienic milk handling and improve milk quality. The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering more development projects across Lamu County, noting that agriculture and livestock remain key drivers of job creation, food security, and economic growth.
Representatives from the Kenya Dairy Board, Mr. Paul Ndugu, and New KCC, Ms. Irene Mwaka, urged farmers to observe high standards of hygiene and quality in milk production. Both institutions expressed interest in buying milk directly from the Witu Livestock Cooperative Society once production levels increase and encouraged farmers to invest in feed production to sustain output.
Local residents thanked the Governor for the project, saying it will create jobs, improve dairy farming, and uplift household incomes in Witu Ward.
Among those who attended were Deputy Governor H.E. Dr. Mbarak Mohamed, Political Advisor and former MP Hon. Julius Ndegwa, CECMs led by Livestock CECM Hon. Sabrina Jefwa, Chief Officers, national government representatives, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, MCAs, and other county officials.
