STAKEHOLDERS SENSITIZATION MEETING ON PHASE 2 POLIO IMMUNIZATION CAMPAIGN

Lamu County Department of Public Health and Sanitation in Collaboration with Ministry of Health, Core Group Partners Project(CGPP) and other development partners, plan to roll out a phase 2 polio immunization campaign countywide that will kick off from 11th November to 15th November 2023.

During the phase 1 polio immunization campaign, a total number of 28,010 children under 5 years were vaccinated all over the County. This was a 104 % achievement depicting a huge success in the phase 1 campaign

Lamu County is considered among the under high risk, since its bordering Somalia and Garissa County where polio cases have been reported.

In today,s Stakeholders sensitization meeting held at Maarus hall , the CECM Health Dr.Mbarak Bahjaj, called on support from all stakeholders to encourage uptake of the vaccination and engage in dissemination of accurate information to the public so that every under 5 years child get vaccinated against polio virus.

He also assured that the vaccines are safe to our children.

Community members living in Juhudi IDP camp volunteered to build toilets and tank stand in support of the construction of the new police camp at Salama.

This is continued effort by the County Government of Lamu led by Governor Issa Timamy to maintain peace and security at Marafa, Juhudi, Salama and Widho areas.

Though secutity is not a devolved function, the county government remains committed to work with security agents to restore calm in Lamu county.

INTRODUCTION OF PHASE 2-KENYA INFORMAL SETTLEMENTS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT(KISIP 2)INFRASTRUCTURE CONSULTANT

County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Senior government officials and Lamu KISIP 2 Coordination team held a consultative meeting with the state department of housing and urban development led by Sam Mbora and the KISIP consultant team from East Africa Engineering Consultant jointly with Italian Company led by Eng.Caleb Murila.

The Purpose of the meeting was to introduce the KISIP 2 consultant who will design infrastructure and supervise jointly the implementation of the project with the Lamu KISIP 2 Coordination team for the six informal settlements.

On behalf of the governor Issa Timamy, Amb. Abbas assured the State department of housing and urban development and the KISIP 2 consultant of their support and collaboration in implementing the project and thanks the National Government and the world bank for the funding.

The KISIP 2 Project seek to improve access to basic services and land tenure, security of residents in six informal settlements within Lamu County and strengthen institutional capacity for slum upgrading in Kenya.

The six informal settlements which are set to benefit from KISIP 2 includes:- Kiunga,Faza, Matondoni,Wiyoni, Mokowe and Witu .

In attendance was CECM Lands, Infrastructure and Urban Development Tashrifa Bakari, Lamu County Project Coordinator Omar Sagaff among others.

County Government of Lamu in partnership with the national government has today officially commenced the construction of Salama police camp in Mkunumbi Ward.

The camp will be instrumental towards beefing up security along Mkunumbi, Marafa, Juhudi, Salama and Widho security road that is currently under construction.

The launch was commissioned by the Deputy Governor HE Raphael Munyua, area MCA Hon. Paul Kimani and Lamu West DCC Mr. Gabriel Kioni

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Saturday hosted President Dr. William Ruto in Lamu to launch development projects.

President Ruto who was accompanied by his Deputy HE Rigathi Gachagua was in Kizingitini where he launched the construction of the first tarmac road in Lamu East. The 50-Kilometre Mtangawanda, Faza, Kizingitini and access roads that will unlock the island’s potential and boost security.

The President also opened the Lamu East Technical and Vocational College that will equip the youth with technical competence to drive our country’s transformation agenda.

Present were Cabinet Secretaries Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen, Aden Duale, Salim Mvurya, Hon. Aisha Jumwa Katana, Ezekiel Machogu, Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi, Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua, MPs and MCAs.

Tourists on Indian Ocean Cruise Ship Enthralled by Lamu’s Beauty

A cruise ship carrying 190 tourists from Mauritius, made an 8 hour stop over at Lamu Island on Friday before embarking on its Indian Ocean cruise to the spicy island of Mauritius.

The timely arrival of MV SH Diana towards peak tourism season is expected to boost the economy of the county and maintain its glory as hub for tourism.

The tourists were recieved by Lamu Governor Issa Timamy and were given a warm welcome before embarking to an 8-hour excursion at different tourist attractions in Lamu.

Speaking at KPA office shortly after recieving the tourists, Governor Timamy said his administration was laying the ground to help make Lamu more attractive to cruise liners through lining up elaborate strategies to market Lamu and increase its visibility in the tourism source markets.

KPA General Manager of Lamu Port Engineer Vincent Sidai described the arrival of MV SH Diana to the Kenyan coast as a positive nod and an affirmation of Lamu as a premier tourism destination and hub due to the varied fascinating experiences.

The cruise liner which was navigated by Finish captains is expected back in Lamu on 24th of November and 9th of December.

The Governor was flanked by CECM Trade and Tourism Hon. Aisha Miraj, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, CoS Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, CO Trade and Tourism Md. Joyce Murimi, KTB board Member among others.

UNVEILING THE NEWLY RENOVATED KING FAHD HOSPITAL

Provision of health care services in Lamu county has received a major boost after Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW officially opened the newly renovated state-of-the-art outpatient unit, dental clinic and a new laboratory unit at King Fahd hospital in Lamu.

The move enables different specialist clinics that previously shared space to now have their own dedicated clinics with adequate space for better service provision.

The new County referral hospital will house;

-Dental unit.

-Emergency unit.

-Pediatric clinic.

– Ear nose and throat (ENT) clinic.

-Nutrition Clinic.

-Counseling.

-Lab and Diagnostic.

-Triage

-Telemedicine Room

-General consultation rooms with privacy

-Pharmacy and medicine store

-Administrative offices

Speaking when he officiated the opening of King Fahd Hospital, Governor Timamy emphasized the efforts made by his administration to renovate/upgrade the hospital and raise the standard of care provided to all patients who visit the facility. The face-lift is also part of Governor Timamy’s health agenda of helping the hospital meet the requirements for Level 5 certification.

The Governor also appreciated CECM Health Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj and his team for the household visits conducted by the Sub-County MOH unit & PCN networks currently in action across the county.

In attendance was County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, CoS Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Mkomani Ward MCAs Hon. Shekhuna Abass, Hon. Ahmed Medo among other county officials.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY INSPECTS LAMU EAST TVET AHEAD OF PRESIDENT’S VISIT

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has reiterated his commitment towards ensuring Technical and Vocational Training Centers continue offering market driven courses since this is where skills training is conducted to match the labour market.

The ANC party leader said this on Thursday afternoon at Kizingitini where he conducted an inspection and assessment tour of Lamu East Technical and Vocational College ahead of official opening by President Dr. William Ruto on Saturday this week.

Governor Timamy further emphasized the need for TVET’s to shift from a theory based curriculum to competency based training that equips youths with hands-on experience to fill the skill gaps that exist within the community.

The Governor was accompanied by Lamu East MP Hon. Ruweida Obo, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief Officer Mr. Shariff Kamalu among others.

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy has today held a consultative meeting with LAPSSET, Director and former County Assembly Speaker Hon. Mohamed Hashim together with Mzee Famau to discuss development projects in Lamu.

The meeting also delved on the County Government preparedness to host President William Ruto who will be visiting Lamu East on 4th November 2023 to officially open the Kizingitini Vocational Training Center.
