LAMU STARTS DIGITAL LEARNING TOWARDS IMPROVING STUDENTS ACCESS TO LITERACY & NUMERACY

County Government of Lamu in partnership with M-Lugha, FCDC and Raspberry Pi Foundation have partnered to pilot computing education in Lamu County.

The project which is being rolled out in the 8 FCDC counties namely: Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit,Isiolo, Tana River and Turkana was commissioned today in Lamu by HE Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW at Mokowe County Government Headquarters.

Speaking in Mokowe, Governor Timamy noted that 10 teachers from 10 schools from Lamu will be trained and be given laptops so that they go and teach learners as part of improving education delivery through technology.

The Governor Timamy also emphasised the critical importance of digital literacy in the County and thanked the sponsors for making the project possible and highlighted the significance of introducing technology to young learners.

LAMU COUNTY PARTNERS WITH TOURISIM FUND TO TRAIN HOTELIERS TO BOOST TOURISM

County Government of Lamu in partnership with Tourism Fund has embarked on training hoteliers in the tourism sector on best practices to attract tourists to their facilities.

According to the Department of Tourism, CECM Hon. Aisha Miraj, 100 youths from Lamu commenced their training on food and beverages production in different hotels on Tuesday and will be expected to complete their training on 17th July 2024. Successful students will be awarded certificates. The CECM further noted that the training is meant to help the players in the tourism industry to up their game and help them improve on standards for tourism.

“This is very important because as tourists come to Lamu, there’s need to find the standards of hospitality very high and they need to find seamless service whether in the big hotels or the small ones,” Hon. Miraj said.

The Tourism Fund Board said they had entered into a partnership with the County Government to offer quality training to hoteliers on ways to improve tourism standards.

The training is in line with Governor Issa Timamy’s objective towards ensuring that local and international tourists take Lamu as their preferred destination globally. The Governor has also lauded the collaboration noting that it is geared towards strengthening the hotel industry in Lamu.

LAMU COUNTY DONATES LOCKERS & CHAIRS TO HONGWE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Hongwe Primary School pupils’ can now focus on improving their performance without having to worry about lack of enough seating space after Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW donated 50 lockers and 50 chairs to alleviate overcrowding in classes.

Speaking during the exercise on Tuesday, Governor Timamy said the main aim of the donation was to improve access to quality education and improve learning conditions for children and ensure that they have the required learning resources.

“My Administration remains committed towards supporting our children’s education since we believe that every one of them should have the opportunity and means to realize their full potential regardless of their circumstance” Governor Timamy said.

The Governor also thanked a foreign sponsor who has established a physiotherapy class for learners who require physio sessions as part of their journey to recovery. He also commended the school Administration for their commitment towards ensuring pupils’ with disabilities are well taken care of and promised that the County Government through the Department of Education would embark towards improving disabled school dormitory.

Other leaders present during the occasion included Deputy Governor HE Raphael Munyua, Education CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga, Agriculture CECM Hon. James Gichu, Education CECM Hon. GOOD NEWS FOR PARENTS & STUDENTS AS GOVERNOR TIMAMY DISTRIBUTES FREE UNIFORM TO BAHATI NJEMA PRIMARY SCHOOL IN MKUNUMBI WARD

Lamu County Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW, has made history as the first Governor to issue free uniforms and shoes to 126 Bahati Njema primary school learners in Mkunumbi Ward.

Speaking when he visited the school on Tuesday, Governor Timamy reaffirmed his commitment towards supporting the improvement of the county’s academic performance and according every child the opportunity to fulfill their potential.

“I am here today, to fulfil my promise towards ensuring these children have respectable school uniforms for tattered uniforms have a negative psychological effect on a growing mind,” said the Governor.

The Governor who doubles up as the Council of Governor’s Blue Economy Committee Chair, also committed to assist the school towards procuring desks and also in cocurricular activities.

The school Headteacher Mr. David Migwi thanked the Governor for his assistance noting that the uniforms would go along way towards boosting learners’ self esteem since all of them come from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

LAMU COUNTY TO SET A CORPORATE UNIT AT KING FAHD HOSPITAL TO SERVE CIVIL SERVANTS & CORPORATE CLIENTS

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has said the County Government of Lamu will set up a corporate outpatient unit at King Fahd Hospital to serve civil servants and corporate clients in a bid to boost the county’s healthcare system.

The dedicated unit will serve civil servants and corporate clients offering full range of expanded outpatient services including laboratory and comprehensive Pharmacy. According to Governor Timamy this will be a major boost towards enabling the hospital to become a level five health facility.

The facility will be launched by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on 12th July 2024 will not only serve to decongest the existing healthcare facility but will also ensure more complex health problems are handled locally.

Upon the opening of the unit, the facility shall run a free medical camp between 12th-14th July 2024.

The unit is being built using FIF (Facility Improvement Financing), a law that was enacted during Governor Timamy’s reign and will go a long way to boosting the hospital revenue to help expand other areas further.

PRIME CABINET SECRETARY MUDAVADI TO GRACE THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF MOKOWE ORTHOPEDICS & TRAUMA UNIT

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH,OGW is expected to host Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi at the official opening of Mokowe Orthopedics & Trauma Unit on12th July 2024.

The newly refurbished facility consists of a Modern Specialized Orthopedics theatre capable of doing complex bone and joint surgeries like spine surgery, hip and knee replacement as well as open fixation of fractures. The facility shall also have wards for inpatient services including common general illnesses and fracture management.

Towards addressing maternal and newborn health emergencies so as to improve the quality of prenatal and postnatal care, County Government of Lamu in partnership with Safaricom Foundation will also officially open a new Maternity and Newborn Unit. The maternity will have a fully equipped labor ward for normal deliveries and ceaserian sections, antenatal and post natal wards.
