UNICEF VISITS LAMU TO DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE FRAMEWORK

A team from UNICEF led by Country Director Dr. Shaheen Nillofer has commenced a three days tour in Lamu county to discuss areas of development assistance that touch on health, education, water and climate change.

Speaking when paying a courtesy call on Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW, UNICEF committed continue partnering with the county to combat the humanitarian situations and implement integrated outreach programs in the county.

Together with Governor Timamy, the team visited Mokowe Arid Zone primary school to check the WASH situation in the school and later toured Mokowe Hospital to inspect the upcoming Orthopedic unit,Eye unit,Theatre and Maternity

On Tuesday, the team will visit Kiangwe village where the County Government under the stewardship of Governor Timamy is setting up a maternity unit and a maternity shelter to help mothers access better prompt maternal services. This will enable hospital referrals easier for boat ambulances to access the facility.

The team will also visit King Fahd hospital with interests in pediatric units and possible collaboration in setting up an ICU for Children.

In attendance was County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Health CECM Dr. Mohamed Bahjaj, Education CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga, Lands CECM Hon. Tashrifa Bakari, CoS Dr. Abdulnasir Issa, Departmental Chief Officers among others.
