“LAMU COUNTY TO EARN MORE THAN 10 MILLIONS IN REVENUE WITH THE REOPENING OF NAGELE MARKET” Governor Timamy.
Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy EGH, OGW, on Wednesday, graced the official reopening of Nagele Livestock Market, a key milestone for the local economy.
The market is a crucial hub for livestock trade and benefits not only local farmers but also traders across the coastal region. This is a welcome relief for livestock traders in Lamu, who in the past have had to walk their animals to Garsen Township in Tana River County for selling.
After gracing the reopening of the market in Witu ward, Governor Timamy said the revival signals a new chapter for economic development, resilience, and communal prosperity in Lamu County.
“This market marks a pivotal moment for the region’s economy and community as the largest livestock market in the county. Reopening of this market will also ensure the county earns over Sh. 10 million in revenue annually since traders and investors can freely buy and sell from this market.” said Governor Timamy.
He further noted that his administration had given the traders a three months tax waiver as a way of enabling them to adjust and further emphasized that his administration remains committed to transforming the county into a livestock hub by creating infrastructure that paves the way to a conducive environment for livestock traders and investors.
The Governor was accompanied by CECM for Livestock Hon. Faiz Fankupi and Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa.
