LAMU COUNTY ACCELERATES ROLL-OUT OF DIGITAL HUBS

County Government of Lamu through the Department of Information Communication and Technology has remained steadfast in ensuring residents have the same access to technology and the internet across the county.

This milestone has been enabled by Governor Issa Timamy’s commitment to establishing free hotspot zones and digital hubs in a quest to ensure everyone, no matter what their background is, can get online and use technology.

This move received a major boost on Wednesday following a fruitful meeting between ICT Chief Officer Mr. Ali Ahmed Mundhar and Mr. Mohamed Awer, CEO WWF Kenya at Hindi Information Center, where they deliberated on strengthening support for the operationalization of the Information Centers’ with particular emphasis on securing fiber connectivity to improve internet access.

In their part, WWF pledged to collaborate with The County Government of Lamu on digital literacy programs aimed at empowering local communities with essential digital skills, furthering the development of Lamu County’s ICT infrastructure.

“This is a great initiative by Governor Timamy to establish Information Centers. I see many youth actively training and utilizing the resources here, which is truly inspiring. Keep up the good work, and let’s continue empowering the community through such impactful programs.” said WWF CEO Mr. Mohamed Awer.

ICT Chief Officer remarked Governor Timamy’s commitment to prioritize the integration of ICT into his development agenda in line with global commitment, adding that ICT is not just an enabler but also an economic accelerator, especially for the unemployed youth.

Under the stewardship of Governor Timamy, the county has been able to set up ICT centers in Manda, Witu, Mkunumbi, Faza, Bahari and Hindi wards respectively.
