H.E. THE GOVERNOR LAUNCHES TRANSFORMATIVE GO BLUE PROJECTS IN LAMU

Yesterday, H.E. the Governor officially launched three landmark projects under the Go Blue Initiative, funded by the European Union.

The projects include:

1. Review and Revision of the County Spatial Plan – now incorporating a Marine Spatial Plan, making Lamu the first county in Kenya to achieve this milestone.

2. Open Space at King Fahad – a vibrant recreational area developed for the community’s well-being.

3. The Blue Carbon Project – designed to enhance climate resilience and promote sustainable resource management.

In his address, the Governor expressed deep appreciation to UN-Habitat, UNEP, Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP), the National Government representatives led by the County Commissioner, KEMFRI, KEMRI, KFS, KWS, NEMA, and other stakeholders for their invaluable partnership and support.

All partners commended the Governor for his visionary leadership in positioning Lamu as a trailblazer. With this achievement, Lamu becomes the first county in Kenya to successfully review and integrate its spatial plan with a marine component — a truly historic milestone.
