GOVERNOR TIMAMY COMMISSIONS DJABIA WATER HARVESTING PROJECT IN KIZINGITINI

On Sunday, Lamu Governor Issa Timamy commissioned a newly constructed 100-cubic-metre Djabia at Kizingitini Village, Faza Ward, marking a major step in enhancing access to portable water for local residents.

The project, implemented under the Kenya Marine Fisheries Socio-Economic Development (KEMFSED) Project, is aimed at strengthening community resilience through rainwater harvesting and improved water security. Speaking during the event, Governor Timamy said the county government remains committed to supporting grassroots initiatives that directly improve livelihoods and address critical social needs.

KEMFSED Project Coordinator Mr. Kamalu said the initiative reflects a strong partnership between the community and development partners, noting that the Djabia was implemented by the Kizingitini OVC Self Help Group with a KEMFSED grant of KES 3.25 million and a community contribution of KES 362,130. He added that the project will play a key role in improving water access, especially during dry seasons.

The Governor was accompanied by his Deputy, Dr. Mbarak Mohamed, members of the County Executive Committee, Chief Officers, and other senior county officials during the commissioning ceremony.
