The County Government of Lamu under the stewardship of Governor Issa Timamy has completed the first phase of Widho-Tabasamu security earth road.
The security road which has incorporated a security camp at Salama, will be instrumental towards beefing up security along Mkunumbi, Marafa, Juhudi, Salama and Widho road which now awaits grading.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH,OGW has thanked the security forces for their cooperation towards ensuring the establishment of the 15 kilometers earth road that will allow security forces to undertake their operations with ease and timely response.
The road is expected to be completed by April 2024.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has today presided over Mpeketoni Boys High School prize giving day to 2023 KCSE outstanding students.
Awards were given to 56 students who recorded a mean grade of B- and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) as well as teachers with leading subjects in KCSE 2023 and co-curricular activities.
During the annual event, outstanding teachers and students received a wide range of gifts including smart phones, suitcases, cash prizes, trophies among other goodies.Mpeketoni Boys High School ranked the best school in the county (2023 KCSE), registering a mean-score of 6.0.
Towards supporting the school, the Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy Raphael Munyua also commited to look for funds so as to complete the stalled library in the school. He further noted that his administration would sponsor teachers and students for a bench marking exercise to schools that have proven to produce consistent quality grades.
The DG congratulated the students who were feted and urged the school administration to strive towards increasing the university transition rate from the current 9% and attain the county’s target transition of 70%
Mpeketoni Boys Principal Mr. Juma Mathias Kalume thanked Governor Timamy for his commitment in promoting education through supporting the school infrastructure and awarding of scholarship which benefits 45% of the students.

HE Governor Issa Timamy has conducted an impromptu inspection tour of Mpeketoni market ahead of its official opening next month.
The Governor was impressed by the contractors work noting that the market would be a relief to many traders who have been selling their produce along the road side.
The Governor called on traders to embrace and maximise the opportunities that would be created by the market once operationalized.
220 form one students from Mpeketoni Boys Secondary school have today been awarded a scholarship cheque worth Ksh.4.9 million as first phase payment for the academic year 2024.
In a ceremony held today at Mpeketoni Boys Secondary school, the Governor issued the scholarship cheque to the outstanding, bright and needy students. The Council of Governors Blue Economy Committee Chair, congratulated the Form one students who managed 300 marks and above assuring them of the County’s commitment to sponsor their full secondary education.
He lauded the great strides towards improvement of education in Lamu under his administration saying it has greatly improved the general performance of the county, as many more students continue striving to hit and even surpass the 300 marks target.
Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua challenged the children to work hard so that they can reap the benefits of this program.
Education CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga underlined the Bursary Board’s commitment to push Governor Timamy’s education agenda of fully supporting all outstanding students throughout the program.

A team from UNICEF led by Country Director Dr. Shaheen Nillofer has commenced a three days tour in Lamu county to discuss areas of development assistance that touch on health, education, water and climate change.
Speaking when paying a courtesy call on Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW, UNICEF committed continue partnering with the county to combat the humanitarian situations and implement integrated outreach programs in the county.
Together with Governor Timamy, the team visited Mokowe Arid Zone primary school to check the WASH situation in the school and later toured Mokowe Hospital to inspect the upcoming Orthopedic unit,Eye unit,Theatre and Maternity
On Tuesday, the team will visit Kiangwe village where the County Government under the stewardship of Governor Timamy is setting up a maternity unit and a maternity shelter to help mothers access better prompt maternal services. This will enable hospital referrals easier for boat ambulances to access the facility.
The team will also visit King Fahd hospital with interests in pediatric units and possible collaboration in setting up an ICU for Children.

NEPAD/APRM Kenya Chief Executive Officer, Amb. Dr. Samori Okwiya, alongside officers from the Secretariat has today paid a courtesy on Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy EGH, OGW to discuss on how to maximize utilisation of Lamu Port and the LAPSSET corridor.
The visit comes as part of the Secretariat’s ongoing efforts to engage with regional authorities and oversee development projects under the LAPSSET corridor.
The NEPAD/APRM team’s presence in Lamu is particularly focused on monitoring the lamu port and the LAPSSET corridor which aims at enhancing trade and connectivity within the region and holds significant importance for Kenya’s economic growth and integration with neighboring countries.

Lamu County Government through Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project KISIP 2, has today handed over the sites to Tello Company Ltd for installation of high masts flood’s light to five settlements.
KISIP 2, is a World Bank and AFD funded project aimed at improving access to basic services and tenure security of residents in urban informal settlements and strengthening slum upgrading across the country.
Lamu County KISIP Coordinating team led by Eng. Ibrahim Ali visited the settlement from Wiyoni, Matondoni, Mokowe and Witu before they were handed over to Contractor.
Speaking during handing over,Director of Tello Company Ltd Maureen Njuguna said, the work of installing the masts will commence very soon.
Lamu County Governor’s office represented by Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa on Thursday made an impromptu visit at the Mpeketoni Sub-district hospital with an aim of checking the functionality of Government structures and equipment towards quality service delivery to residents.
The Chief of Staff who was accompanied by Disaster Management Chief Officer Mr. Mohamed Kassim noted that the facility was doing well in terms of the provision of the quality healthcare.
He further emphasized on Governor Timamy’s commitment in provision of quality healthcare to residents as a priority area which envisages a functional health system that meets the needs of every resident, well equipped health facilities as well as a well trained and motivated workforce.
The Chief of Staff also inspected the ongoing renovation of public health offices, kitchen, mortuary and the ongoing construction of new wards.
In attendance was the hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Moroa Mohamed.

The County Government of Lamu has this afternoon extended support to victims of the fire tragedy that ravaged homes at Tewe in Bahari Ward. During the fire incident homes and property of unknown value were destroyed with nine families left homeless.
Led by Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Disaster Chief Officer Mr. Mohamed Kassim the team presented the victims of the inferno with assorted foodstuffs, PUR for water treatment, mosquito nets and tarpaulin that were donated by Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW.
The victims of the fire thanked His Excellency Governor Issa Timamy for his support during this difficult period.
World Vision who were also present gave the victims mats, dignity kits and blankets.
Others present was area Assistant Chief and Bahari Ward Administrator.

Lamu County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing board has today held a sensitisation forum with Lamu West Subcounty bar owners on licensing, regulation and issues affecting the liquor industry for a safer and dignified county.
While making his remarks, Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua indicated that Governor Issa Timamy administration was committed to ensuring that there’s a good working relationship between the county and traders.
He further thanked bar owners for their willingness to comply with the law noting that alcoholic drinks consumers cannot be guaranteed their safety if outlets are not regulated.
“Most of the unlicensed premises contribute greatly to the proliferation of illicit and counterfeit alcoholic drinks and that’s what we want to regulate” noted the DG.
Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing board Chair Mr. Kasim Athman assured traders that the board was keen to ensure bars are regulated to enable them to operate in a dignified manner, provide a conducive environment for the businesses as well as protect people in residential areas.
Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing Director Mr. Khamis Kaviha added that the licensing and regulation will guard against the selling of illicit and counterfeit brews and protect people from consumption of the substandard alcoholic brands that subject our people to health hazards.
Bar owners who have until 1st April 2024 to comply, lauded the County Government initiative in organising the sensitisation forum and commited to comply and protect the sector that employs thousands of people in the county.
The forum is being attended by bar operators from Lamu West Sub-County and is being chaired by Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua and is coordinated by the Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing Committee led by the Board Chair Mr. Kasim Athman, Director Mr. Khamisi Kaviha and committee members.
Also in attendance were officers from the Department of Public Health, Ward Administrators, NEMA, Provincial Administration led by the DCC among others.
