Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy OGW, EGH on Wednesday visited WWF Headquarters at Karen Nairobi where he held constructive talks with WWF CEO Mr. Mohamed Awer and his team on various interventions of WWF in Lamu County and the forthcoming projects they plan to undertake in Lamu.
Governor Timamy who is in Nairobi on a working tour lauded WWF for their contribution towards establishment of Lamu Emergency Operation Centre, mangrove and nature based solution projects and fisheries within the county.
The Council of Governors’ Blue Economy Committee Chair noted that he was keen on ensuring Lamu preserves its wetland areas and water towers like Lake Kenyatta, lake Moa, sand dunes as well strengthening of BMUs to support dip sea fishing.
The ANC Party leader was accompanied by County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has today paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mrs. Nasra Salim Al Hashmi at the Sultanate of Oman Embassy, Muthaiga, Nairobi.
The Governor and the Ambassador discussed areas of interest and investment opportunities in Lamu County and further agreed to strengthen the brotherly relationship between Oman and Lamu County.
The Governor who is Nairobi on a working tour was accompanied by County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas and has been meeting other development partners to discuss areas of possible collaborations.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has today paid a courtesy call on Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA)Director Ms. Yasemin CANSUZ – KURT,Government in Nairobi.
The meeting delved on how they can cooperate in women empowerment, health Sector, training in disaster management in sea disaster, flooding, fire among others.
TİKA is an implementing intermediary of Turkish foreign policy, particularly in the countries with whom they have shared values.
Governor Timamy noted that the partnership between County Government of Lamu and TİKA was in line with his manifesto towards women empowerment, creating jobs and unlocking the economic potential of Lamu County.

Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua accompanied by Lamu East MP Capt. Ruweida have this morning presided over Kizingitini modern market site hand over ahead of the official ground breaking ceremony that will be presided by President William Ruto later this month.
The DG thanked President William Ruto’s administration for allocating funds to set up the market and further thanked Governor Timamy for providing land for the construction of the first ultra modern market in Faza Ward. He further noted once completed, the market will benefit more than 200 families and will unlock the economic potential of Kizingitini and neighboring villages.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Saturday chaired Lamu County Education stakeholders forum at Lamu Polytechnic to deliberate about the desired change in the education sector in the county.
Speaking during the forum, the Governor sought the cooperation of stakeholders in improving the standards of education and he further pledged to improve the standard of education through ensuring timely disbursement of scholarships and bursaries, employment of ECDE teachers, development of ECDE infrastructure among others.
“Our deliberations centered on matters of education, specifically on how the County can collaborate with the key stakeholders in efforts to improve education standards in Lamu” said the ANC party leader.
The Governor further expressed concerns in secondary school to university transition rate noting that if drastic measures are not taken the downturn would continue.
“Out of 2,040 students who sat for KCSE in 2023 Lamu, 400 were under the county scholarship program, but only 192 out 2,040 managed to attain university grades an indicator that we have not been able to utilize the scholarship to the optimum” emphasized Governor Timamy.
Flanked by his Deputy Raphael Munyua, the Governor also highlighted negligence by parents, inadequate key infrastructure eg. Laboratories and ICT labs, lack of proper boarding facilities in boarding schools and lack of teacher motivation among the factors that pose a risk to a slump of the education sector.
The County boss called upon all the stakeholders to work together in tandem towards the improvement of education standards in the county and further reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the standards of education saying the provision of quality education was a basic human right as enshrined in the constitution. He further noted student’s absenteeism as a major threat to their success and emphasized on parents fulfilling their parenting obligation since education is the only equalizer amongst children.
Among other issues that were discussed regarding teachers included adressing the shortage of sciences and languages teachers, motivation of teachers through incentives, organizing workshop and trainings among others.

The Department of Education wishes to notify parents and guardians whose students are already enrolled and benefiaries under the County Government of Lamu scholarship program (Form 2- 4) to submit new applications for the academic year 2024.
Duly filled Scholarship and Bursary application form should be submitted to the Ward Administrators office before 18th December 2023
This application is mandatory to all students who are already benefiting and those that shall not submit will not be considered during the academic year 2024.
This process is part of Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW to support the education sector and ensure the scholarships and bursaries are issued to the bright and needy students from Lamu. The call for new applications will enable the County Government to know those beneficiaries who could have dropped out, transfered or those who might have got other forms of sponsorships.
The County through the department of Lands, today has embarked on a series of public participations on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment to kick start the development works.
The citizens of Wiyoni and Matondoni have expressed great enthusiasm towards the initiative and with the Settlement Executive Committee (SEC) and Grievances Redress Committee (GRC) community committees already in place of their project, is expected to kick off next year.

Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has today welcomed over 100 tourists in Lamu in a move to promote tourism and spur the sectors economic growth. This is the first ever group of tourists in history to visit Lamu as a group
As the festive season draws closer to its peak, Governor Timamy has closely been working with key players and stakeholders in the tourism industry to woo tourists to visit and experience our lush beaches, vibrant culture, and create an opportunity for travellers to immerse themselves in our rich traditions and sceneries, and make unforgettable memories.
The tourists were welcomed at Manda airport and later proceeded with their excursion in a move that will in turn, culminate in reaping fortunes in the recovering tourism sector.
The Governor was accompanied by CECM Trade Hon. Aisha Miraj and Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has today joined CS Blue Economy Hon. Salim Mvurya and other Governor’s in celebrating this years World Fisheries Day in Mombasa county.
This years event was marked in Mombasa County to celebrate the importance of sustainable stocks of fisheries in the world, to strengthen human rights for the small-scale fishing communities, to make a true difference in the working conditions of fishing communities and to eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
Speaking during the event that was held at Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development project at Liwatoni, the Council of Governors Blue Economy Committee Chair Governor Issa Timamy, emphasized on the end to the violation of human rights within the fishing sector. He also highlighted on the council’s commitment towards tapping into immense opportunities created by fisheries and aquaculture towards offering crucial opportunities, creating employment, building strong coastal communities, and providing food security and nutrition to vulnerable populations.
World Fisheries Day is observed annually to raise awareness regarding fisheries and to advocate for sustainable fishing practices that preserve marine ecosystems and support the livelihoods of millions dependent on fisheries worldwide.

County Government of Lamu in collaboration with Anidan and Pablo Horstmann has officially unveiled the new paediatric outpatient wing at King Fahd hospital, which will provide specialized care to children across the county.
The new facility will help address the shortage of paediatric services in the county and improve access to care for children who need it most.
Speaking at the opening ceremony today, Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW thanked the two charities for their collaboration and support and underscored the importance of making the facility a centre of excellence in paediatric services. He further promised to engage with the partners to facilitate the setting up of pediatric ICU and HDU units at the facility.
The new and well equipped paediatric unit will be managed by the County Government of Lamu through the department of health and will host paedetricians, clinical officers, medical officers and nurses.
