County Government of Lamu Issues Over Sh. 11 Million in Bursaries To Needy Students

A total of 3,246 students from Lamu West Sub-County are a happy lot after the County Government of Lamu awarded them school bursaries worth Sh. 11.361 million.

Speaking at Mokowe County Headquarters during the official launch of bursary disbursement cheques where all heads of secondary schools from Lamu West were invited, Lamu Governor H.E., Issa Timamy EGH, OGW said students who were needy would benefit immensely from the funds by being able to remain in school uninterrupted.

“This life transforming initiative is part of my education agenda. Today we have collectively distributed Sh. 11.361 million benefitting 3,246 students, thus contributing a lot to the social development of our County,” reiterated the ANC Party leader.

The Governor further noted that his administration had already disbursed Sh. 3.2 million to Lamu East Sub-County and expressed his commitment towards supporting the education sector across the county since it’s the only way the Government can change the lives of our children and support the dreams of bright but needy students from Lamu.

Presently, County Government of Lamu is sponsoring 2,245 students under full scholarship, 309 student from the marginalized communities of Sanye and Boni and 3,246 enrolled under bursaries.

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs)present lauded the Governor’s efforts in making sure more needy students get bursaries to make them stay in school.

During the disbursement of funds ceremony, the Governor was accompanied by his Deputy H.E Raphael Munyua, CECMs, Chief Officers, MCAs led by Deputy Speaker Hon. Paul Kimani, Hindi MCA Hon. James Njaaga, Mkomani MCA Hon. Shekhuna Abbas, Bahari Ward MCA Hon. Francis Gakonga, Witu MCA Suleiman Farah and nominated MCAs Hope and Asha.
