LAMU COUNTY LAUNCHES POLIO VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

The Department of Public Health and sanitation in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has today 07/10/2023, launched a five day polio vaccination campaign at Mkunguni Square.

The campaign started today and will run upto Wednesday 11/10/2023.

During the launch, the CEC for Health Dr.Mbarak Bahjaj, urged the community to support and cooperate with the Healthcare workers who will be visiting households to administer the vaccine to children under 5 year.

He also added that the vaccine is safe to the children.

“Lamu County has 72% overall vaccine coverage”, Dr. Bahjaj said, as he urged the Lamu community to ensure children are vaccinated to target at least 80% vaccine coverage.

The colorful ceremony was attended by County Government Officials, Officials from Ministry of Health, area MCA, County Commisioner and Religious leaders.

LAMU RECIEVES Sh. 14M TO BOOST PRIMARY HEALTHCARE FROM USAID

Lamu County Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensure residents get quality and affordable healthcare.

Speaking at Mokowe County Headquarters on Wednesday during an entry meeting with USAID Stawisha Pwani who presented a cheque of Sh. 14 Million towards the establishment of primary healthcare network, the Governor thanked USAID for their partnership ephasizing that it will boost the County’s efforts towards accelerating primary healthcare.

“This partnership will go a long way towards promoting health services to be more accessible, affordable, and acceptable to the communities in Lamu County,” he said.

USAID further pledged to donate $100,000 which will be used by the Department of Health towards the establishment of a Methadone clinic and a Drug Abuse Psychosocial Support clinic at Faza hospital for rehabilitation of persons who use and inject drugs.

The primary health care grant will compliment Timamy Care (Afya Mashinani) initiative which has been instrumental in promoting proactive outreach services to the communities within the County to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases and mental health illnesses. Under Timamy Care, the Department of Health has undertaken successful 87 specialized clinics across the County where over 2,000 patients have been attended.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor H.E Raphael Munyua, CECM Health Hon. Dr. Mbarak Bhajaj, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Medical Services Director Dr. Baasba, Deputy Chief of Party Dr. Masaulo, Representative from the Ministry of Health among others.

JSC visits Lamu County To Foster Collaboration

JSC Commissioners this morning paid a courtesy call to Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy as part of the Commission’s outreach aimed at fostering collaboration in the administration of justice.

Governor Timamy acknowledged the work the commission is doing towards administration of justice and indicated willingness to work together with JSC in order to improve access to justice in the county.

The JSC briefed the Governor on areas and issues of common interest in the administration of justice, focusing on infrastructure and feedback from stakeholders.

The delegation also appreciated the support from Governor Timamy Administration towards solving issues on administration of justice and also lauded the Governor for giving land to JSC for the commencement of the construction of the first ever Lamu High Court.

The Governor also committed to working together with JSC to improve access to justice for all by allowing them to set up a temporary high court at the formerly Lamu County Assembly offices in Lamu as they await completion of the construction of the new High Court in Mokowe.

Present in the meeting was Deputy Governor H.E Raphael Munyua, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, JSC Vice Chair Hon. Macharia Njeru, JSC Commissioners Hon. Mohamed Warsame, Hon. Justice David Majanja, Hon. Caroline Nzilani,Hon. Seleina Kisotu among others.

Idara ya Afya kaunti ya Lamu itashirikiana na washikadau mbalimbali ili kufanikisha Mpango wa Utunzi wa Afya ya msingi almaarufu kama Primary Health Care ulioanzishwa na Serekali ya Kitaifa chini ya Kauli mbiyu Afya yetu jukumu letu.

Lamu County Opens ICT Centre In Mkunumbi

Residents of Mkunumbi ward have a reason to smile following the handing over of a newly refurbished ICT centre at Mkunumbi Ward Administrator’s office.

The ICT centre was launched this morning by Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW and will benefit the youth and community in the area.

The ICT center is first among the eight that Governor Timamy promised to establish in each ward in an ambitious project to spur digital transformation across the county.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at Mkunumbi, Governor Timamy said the centre would complement his Administration agenda to revolutionize the use of technology.

“We want to create a digital infrastructure where youth can be trained to acquire the requisite ICT skills, access job opportunities and give them the prerequisite exposure to the digital world. ICT is not just an enabler but also an economic accelerator, especially for the unemployed youth” said Governor Timamy.

The Governor is in Mkunumbi ward to inspect and launch Government projects and is accompanied by all CECMs, Chief of Staff, Chief Officers among other county officials.

Joy For Mkunumbi Residents As Governor Timamy Opens Newly Renovated Maternity Unit

It was a joyful day for Mkunumbi ward residents as Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW opened the newly renovated and fully equipped Mkunumbi dispensary maternity unit.

Speaking at Mkunumbi Dispensary, Governor Timamy said that the opening of the maternity unit was a great milestone in his administration’s quest to enhance the provision of primary healthcare for the county residents.

“By renovating this dispensary that was constructed in 2017 and was neglected, is a sign of commitment to our quest to enhance access to healthcare and save our people from traveling long distances in search of healthcare services which in turn saves them money and time to attend to other socio economic activities”, Governor Timamy said.

The Governor further noted the dispensary which has a capacity for 2 delivery beds will serve expectant women within the dispensary catchment area including Mkunumbi, Koreni and Bahati Njema who previously had to travel to Mpeketoni for the service. Last year the dispensaries recorded 125 anti-natal clinic visits with zero delivery from the facility.

Governor Timamy is in Mkunumbi ward to inspect and launch County Government projects and is accompanied by all members of his cabinet, Chief of Staff Dr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief Officers among other county officials.

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy, has this morning commissioned the Mkunumbi cabro paving.

The Governor is in Mkunumbi to inspect and launch county government projects and was accompanied by all CECM members, Chief Officers, Chief of Staff among others.

LAMU COUNTY COMMENCES REGISTRATION OF FARMERS

H.E Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has officially launched the County Government of Lamu profiling and mapping of farmers, agro-input suppliers and grain stockists at Lake Kenyatta Agricultural Training Center (ATC)

The exercise which will be undertaken in the next 30 days is geared towards enabling the County Government to know household based farmers, design interventions that support them, develop appropriate advisory services and implement County Government pledges.

Speaking during the launch on Thursday afternoon at ATC, Governor Timamy said the database will capture the total number of farmers with their geographical distribution and enable the County to develop appropriate policies as well as other development interventions and support.

“This initiative is key in planning for all government projects and programmes such as farm inputs and going foward the department of Agriculture shall be able to plan adequately since we will know the exact number of farmers and their needs. I also urge data collectors to provide accurate information regarding the profile of farmers” stated Governor Timamy.

The data will be collected through ODK collect platform and KIAMIS (Kenya Integrated Agricultural Management Information System) an integrated web platform developed to support the registration of farmers in the different agricultural value chains.

Lamu Port & The County Seeks To Attract More Investment At The Sea Port

LAPSSET Board Chair, Hon. Ali Menza Mbogo together with a delegation from LAPSSET has this morning paid a courtesy call on H.E Governor Issa Timmay EGH, OGW to discuss on areas of cooperation and partnership towards realization of the LAPSSET corridor projects in the County.

Among key issues discussed included the cargo evacuation route from Lamu to Moyale and the success story of the arrival of the World Food Programme consignment that was brought by MV Swan from Djibouti which has made the port viable to distribute food aid to Ethiopia, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and other East and Central African regions.

Governor Timamy lauded the Lamu port management for having been aptly able to achieve great milestone of a seamless cargo evacuation from the port of Lamu and subsequent transportation through the LAPSSET corridor.

“This is an indication that the grandiose Port of Lamu port is fully open for and will catapult Lamu and Kenya into the league of key global transshipment and commercial maritime hubs” Stated Governor Timamy.

Other issues discussed included partnerships and collaborations, harmonizing of planning documents as well as planning on the possibility of holding a major investment conference between LAPSSET and the County Givernment of Lamu.

LAPSSET remains to be a crucial Kenya Vision 2030 flagship project and is expected to transform regional economies through increased trade, integration and inter-connectivity spanning South Sudan and landlocked Ethiopia.

In attendance was Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat Director General Mr. Kenneth Mwige, LAPSSET Director General, Mr. Stephen Ikua, Lapsset Regional Manager Mr. Salim Bunu among others.

LAMU & COASTAL COUNTIES TO TAP INTO BLUE ECONOMY OPPORTUNITIES

Lamu Governor, H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has this evening joined CS for Blue Economy Hon. Salim Mvurya, PS Shadrack Mwadime and Netherlands Deputy Ambassador Joris Van Bommel to discuss on how Coastal Counties can tap into blue economy resources to transform the lives of Kenyans.

Speaking in Mombasa during the Dutch Trade Mission themed Blue Economy, Council of Governors’ Blue Economy Committee Chair H.E Issa Timamy, emphasized on his commitment towards ensuring blue economy plays an integral role towards creating employment opportunities terming it an economic game changer for this coastal counties.

Among other key issues that were discussed unclude;

1. How to tap into blue economy to spur economic growth and produce resources such as energy and food.

2. Development of a green infrastructure in coastal counties to help preserve biodiversity.

3. Adopting innovation in blue economy without threatening our water bodies.
