GOVERNOR TIMAMY GRACES MPEKETONI AGRI-BUSINESS FARMERS FIELD DAY IN BAHARI WARD, LAMU COUNTY

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW, on Saturday graced the Farmers Field Day at Mpeketoni Agricultural Training Center where entrepreneurs, industry professionals and farmers come together to exchange ideas, expand businesses, and share knowledge and technologies that can drive sustainable growth in the agri-sector of Lamu County.

Speaking during the event, Lamu Governor said the forum served as a platform for showcasing, networking, knowledge and innovations in the agriculture industry to unlock the county agricultural potential which encapsulates the focus on exploring the vast untapped opportunities and sustainable practices that can revolutionise Lamu’s agricultural sector and connect the county to global agribusiness.

“After going through different demonstration farms, I urge our farmer’s to take advantage of the appropriate technology and market linkages showcased here to unlock Lamu’s agricultural potential” Stated Governor Timamy

Governor Timamy also underscored his administration commitment towards wooing investors noting that cotton ginning and a cashewnut processing plant investors are on site towards setting up their plants in Hindi and Bahari ward’s respectively.

Towards promoting Agriculture and supporting famers, the Governor announced that his administration had revised the subsided ploughing services from Sh. 2,500 to 2,250 per acre against the commercial rate if over Sh. 3,500 per acre to enable more farmers benefit from the subsidy.

Deputy Governor HE Raphael Munyua commited to support Governor Timamy towards empowering and harnessing the power of the farmer’s and leveraging on technology towards cultivating a brighter pivotal role played by famers in agriculture and shaping the future of farming in Lamu.

Agriculture CECM Hon. James Gichu said the field day served as a platform for knowledge sharing for policymakers, industry leaders towards innovative farming techniques, data-driven agriculture, best practices for sustainable agriculture, financing, and investment opportunities among others.

In attendance was County Secretary Ambassador Ali Abbas, CECMs, Chief Officer’s, Directors among other county officials.
