GOVERNOR TIMAMY LEADS RESIDENTS IN WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATIONS AT WITU
Lamu County on Wednesday joined the rest of the globe in marking World Environment Day at Witu in a colourful event that was presided by Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW.
This year’s event was held under the theme, ‘Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience’
The Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy HE Raphael Munyua, thanked Witu residents and stakeholders for taking part in the clean up exercise and tree planting exercise and further urged residents to continue advocating for a greener environment and conservation of nature.
“As we celebrate World Environment Day, it’s essential to reflect on the past year and confront the environmental challenges ahead. Climate change isn’t a distant threat; it’s a pressing reality demanding immediate, coordinated action” said Governor Timamy.
The Governor further reiterated his Administration’s commitment in protecting land, forests and biodiversity which are critical towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
UN environment programme, Nature Kenya, GEF, KEMSFED, Flora & Fauna, Save Lamu, WWF, NEMA, KEFRI were among the key stakeholders who joined Witu residents to mark the World Environment Day. Also present were County Executive Committee Members.
