Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy on Friday signed an MoU with North Coast Training College an undertaking that will allow the college to send their senior students to Lamu for clinical attachment and mentorship. These students will form part of the hospital workforce and help minimize human resource gaps in tasks that require basic skills.

The Governor lauded the move saying that it will create an opportunity to elevate Lamu hospitals to teaching levels which will ensure improvement in quality and strict compliance to standards of care. The arrangement will see Lamu receive over 200 students every year distributed over King Fahd, Mpeketoni, Mokowe, Faza & Witu hospitals respectively.

The Governor further added that the presence of students in these areas will spur economic growth as they will need accommodation, meals, and supplies among others.

According to Health CECM Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj, this partnership will also result in other benefits such as the sharing of knowledge, supplies and equipment between the partner organization and Lamu County

In attendance was County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, CoS Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief officer Dr. Victor Tole, Ag Director Medical Services Dr. Abdulkadir Omar, Head of EOC Iftikhar Majid. NCMT team was represented by Dr.Julius Maina Nduru -Director, Dr. Reuben Waswa -Director, Dr. Marianne Darwinkel – Director and Ms. Dorothy Tenai – Principal.
