LAMU COUNTY BAGS PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL AVERTED DISASTER AWARD 2024

WorldBank Hub has awarded Lamu County the most prestigious Averted Disaster award program following the establishment of an Emergency Operation Center.

Lamu County was awarded for it’s outstanding disaster risk management intervention and making an extraordinary impact on community and future generations.

Lamu Emergency Operation Center was established by HE Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW as a hub for coordinating all forms of Disasters in the county on the sea, land or air.

The award was received on behalf of the County Government of Lamu by the Director for Disaster Risk Management and Peace Building Mr. Shee Kupi Shee who participated in the call for submission of nominations for Awards in January this year.

Other finalists in the Award included Jamaica, Turkey, Southern african region and India.

The Award event was held during the international UR24 Forum that was held in Himeji, Japan from 16th to 21st June this year.
