Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade & Investment Hon. Rebecca Miano on Thursday graced the County Investment Conference that was held in Mokowe, Lamu.

The CS was received by Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW who hosted the county’s big moment to scout for investors for Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera Counties.

Attended by Governors and investors, the conference was themed: ‘Unveiling Opportunities, Redefining Northern Kenya as Investable Destination’ and aimed to spotlight the investment potential in the five counties that are plagued by challenges such as limited infrastructure, arid landscapes, and socio-economic disparities.

The CS noted that the conference served as a convergence point for both local and foreign investors to identify investment opportunities available in the five Counties. She further emphasized on the need for the member counties to be assisted towards unlocking their untapped potential since these opportunities will benefit both investors and residents.

Lamu Governor termed the event as a success adding that despite their unique challenges and hurdles faced by the five counties, collaborative efforts among the private sector, development partners, and public entities had led to notable strides in realizing viable, impactful investments.

“I state with conviction that Lamu is the best place for investment. We are strategically located as a gateway to Kenya through the LAPSSET project, favorable agro-climatic conditions, and a steadily growing population. I appeal to various development partners to come and invest in Lamu,” Governor Timamy said.

The conference delved into topics such as advancements in sustainable agriculture and livestock management, climate change and environmental degradation and financing mechanisms to stimulate economic growth and development in the region.

Facilitators, USAID Kuza said the primary goal of the event was to showcase the vast investment potential in the underserved areas and foster connections between potential investors and local businesses and entrepreneurs.
