OVER 700 HOUSE HOLDS TO BENEFIT FROM FOOD RELIEF IN LAMU.
Lamu County Deputy Governor H.E Raphael Munyua, has hosted a delegation from World Wide Fund for Nature Kenya (WWF) to deliberate on how distribution of relief food will be conducted to local communities in Lamu. The distribution exercise will be flagged off tomorrow at Mtangawanda in Faza ward.
The Deputy Governor commended WWF for the role they are playing towards conservation and protection of natural resources. They further deliberated on how best Lamu County can partner with the County Government towards restoring Lake Kenyatta which is currently under the threat of extinction.
Part of the County Government nature based solutions towards saving the Lake include immediate banning of human activities along the lake as well as stopping siltation through planting of grass and fodder crops to prevent carbon emissions and erosion.
WWF Manager Ms. Asma Awadi said the relief food will be distributed to 14 villages and further committed to work with the County Government to support communities towards creating an enabling environment for the achievement of sustainable natural resource management. In Lamu, WWF is currently running Triple Benefit Program (TBP) to achieve thriving biodiversity, and enhanced climate mitigation as well as Lamu Mangrove conservation project.
WWF officials who were in attendance include Hussein Nur, Gedi Adhan, Caroline Rabar among others.
