Lamu Governor Issa A. Timamy among other Governors from drought stricken counties met the Deputy President H.E Rigathi Gachagua to discuss immediate and long term interventions to curb the effects of drought.
It was resolved that Kenya Meat Commision will work with county governments to implement the livestock off-take directly from farmers. County governments will also be required to set aside 2% of their budgets to support drought response.
Also in attendance was Council of Governors Chair Ann Waiguru and ASAL County Governors.
Yesterday, the Lamu County Government, Governor Issa A. Timamy and his team of CEC’s and C.O’s paid a courtesy call to our office to learn more about the Go Blue project. He was briefed by component leads from all Implementing partners on the Go Blue interventions. The Governor committed to work well with JKP to make sure the Goblue projects run smoothly.
CONGRATULATIONS! GOVERNOR ISSA TIMAMY ELECTED AS CoG’s BLUE ECONOMY COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN
H.E Governor Issa Timamy has been elected as CoG Blue Economy Committee Chairperson in the just concluded Council of Governors Induction in Mombasa. Governor Timamy was one of 18 Governors that were elected to lead the Council of Governors’ (CoG) Committees during the CoG’s leadership elections held at the Pride Inn hotel yesterday, 17th September 2022 in Mombasa County.
As the Chair, H.E Timamy will coordinate the agenda between counties and the national government in blue economy innovative development, development of marine economy, employment and ensuring a long-term sustainable blue growth is achieved.
The Governor also congratulated Kirinyaga Governor H.E. Anne Mumbi Waiguru and Wajir Governor H.E Abdullahi Ahmed for being elected as the Council of Governors Chairperson and Vice chair respectively. Nandi Governor Stephen Sang was elected as the Chief Whip.

Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy has appointed the first County Assembly sitting to be on Thursday, September 2022. According to Kenya Gazette Notice No. 11021.
On this day, Members of the County Assembly Elect and nominated members shall take oath of office and thereafter elections of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker shall be done.

Lamu County Governor H.E Issa Timamy has joined other Frontier County Development Council (FCDC) Governors in a breakfast meeting to discuss how they can work with the National Government towards promoting devolution and improving regional cooperation for socio-economic transformation among the member counties.
The meeting which is being attended by the 10 member counties in Mombasa, will see the Governors being taken through the scope of FCDC, areas of development interest under FCDC as well as how to ensure counties have collective and coordinated efforts by all stakeholders, with communities at the centre of all initiatives.
Addressing the meeting, Lamu Governor committed to ensure Lamu will be represented in FCDC programes so as to tap the existing devolution vast opportunities that will improve his Administration service delivery, enhance peace and security as well as promote a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
FCDC mainly focuses on increasing people’s access to essential services in agriculture and livestock, education, water, land, peace and cohesion sectors. Its member counties include; Lamu, West Pokot, Wajir, Turkana, Tana River, Samburu, Marsabit, Mandera, Isiolo and Garissa counties respectively.

Lamu County Government has kick started interdepartmental consultative meetings with stakeholders, development partners and National Government representatives in preparation of County Integrated Development Plan (iii) that will cover year 2023-2027.
The five year County Integrated Development Plan which will later be taken for public participation in September this year, will outline a framework for development in Lamu and aims to co-ordinate the work of both levels of the government in a coherent plan to improve the quality of life for all the people and contribute towards devolution.
According to the County Governments act section 108, the county integrated development plan(CIDP) outlines the county development goals covering a period of five years and reflects the County strategic midterm priorities, captures specific goals and objectives, a coasted implementation plan, provisions for monitoring and evaluation and clear reporting mechanisms.
Lamu County CIDP 2023-2027 Public participation will be held from 26th September 2022 in every ward. Respective dates per ward shall be communicated through the county Ward administrator offices.
Today, the County held its meeting organized by budget and economic planning led by their chief Officer Salma Omar with the Health sector led by their C.E.C.M Dr. Anne Gathoni. Also in attendance were Health Chief Officer Dr. Victor Tole, Director Health Dr. Abubakar Baasba, Director of Budget and economic planning Andrew Waweru, Deputy County Commissioner Philip Oloo among others.

Lamu County Governor HE Issa Timamy, has hosted a delegation from World Wide Fund for Nature Kenya (WFF) to deliberate on how local communities in Lamu can conserve, protect and restore the natural resources they depend on.
The Governor commended WFF for its beneficence to Lamu county through championing for a sustainable blue economy, supporting the implementation of nature based solutions to conserve our environment and the blue forest advocacy. He further committed to ensure his administration supports WFF Lamu as part of ensuring local communities continue to contribute towards providing an enabling environment for the achievement of sustainable natural resource management.
Lamu County Government will further liase on how to work with WFF towards;
Triple Benefit Program (TBP) – Land to Sea to achieve improved human well-being, thriving biodiversity, and enhanced climate mitigation & resilience for people and nature in the countries of intervention.

WWF has been working in Kenya since 1962 alongside the government, civil society, private sector organisations and local communities to contribute towards providing a conducive environment for the achievement of sustainable natural resource management.
The meeting brought together WWF delegates, among other County officials.
Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy today made an impromptu visit to Mpeketoni Sub-County hospital to check on the services offered, the infrastructural state of the facility and the status of drugs availability.
During his tour, Governor Timamy visited pharmacy and drug stores to ascertain whether there were sufficient drugs and non-pharmaceuticals in the facility before interacting with patients and the public to inquire from them the quality of services offered.
The Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy HE Raphael Munyua, expressed his commitment to operationalize the maternity wing, modernize TSS ward, facelift the Mpeketoni sub county hospital, equipping the new Mpeketoni OPD block as well as introducing automation of hospital payment services to improve transparency and efficiency.
“I urge the Department of Health to direct much attention to service delivery and motivation of health staffs in a bid to improve working standards and morale that will help restore county residents trust and faith in our facilities. I would also want to urge our medical practitioners to be robust, effective and efficient towards serving the great people of Lamu” Governor Timamy said.
Towards improving service delivery, the Governor further highlighted that plans were underway to introduce automation of hospital payment services which will improve transparency and efficiency. The county will also introduce mechanisms to mitigate unexplainable losses of drugs and absenteeism of health staff.
The Governor also noted that the County will be procuring two additional coolers to be fitted at Mpeketoni sub county morgue.
His visit comes as part of his departmental fact finding tour to ensure all departments are working effectively.
The governor later visited Mpeketoni market traders.

A high level delegation from Co-operative bank led by Head of Coast Region Mr. Stephen Musyoka paid a courtesy call on Governor Issa Timamy to discuss areas of possible cooperation between the bank and the County Government of Lamu.
Speaking during the meeting that was held on 8/09/2022 at Mokowe headquarters, the Governor commended Cooperative Bank for their governance, social and economic contributions to the Lamu community adding that his Administration is willing to work with all stakeholders for the benefit of Lamu people.
The team also delivered a congratulatory message from Cooperative Bank CEO to HE Governor Timamy and his Deputy HE Raphael Munyua for winning the August gubernatorial elections.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy accompanied by his Deputy Raphael Munyua led other Lamu County elected leaders on a familiarization tour of the Lamu Port earlier today.
The Regional Manager of LAPPSET, Mr. Salim Bunu, and the Manager of Cargo Operations at the Lamu Port, Mr. Peter Masinde, showed Governor Timamy through the finished facilities and infrastructure. Governor Timamy pledged his support and cooperation for the full realization of the new port, which he emphasized will significantly boost the county’s economic development .
Governor Timamy met with senior management of the inter agencies, including Kenya Ports Authority, LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Kenya Revenue Authority, and KeNHA Kenya, among others. He was also accompanied by Lamu West MP Stanley Muthama, Senator Joseph Githuku, and a number of MCAs.
Governor Timamy emphasized the County’s participation and cooperation in the creation of the livestock export zone while further promising to facilitate allocation of land and marketing the new port for the export of livestock. Additionally, he requested cooperation and joint efforts in hosting an investor conference in Lamu later this year.
The Adhoc Committee on Operationalization of Port of Lamu, co-chaired by Lamu County Commissioner Mr. Irungu Macharia and KPA General Manager Port of Lamu Eng. Vincent Sidai, serves as the umbrella organization under which the agencies operate.
