Relief for Maisha Masha residents as Governor Timamy opens Maisha Masha Maternity wing

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has opened a new maternity wing at Maisha Masha dispensary in a move to boost primary health care in rural areas.

The Maisha Masha maternity wing brings relief to mothers from the area and it’s environs who had to travel to Witu and Mpeketoni to seek for maternity services.

Speaking during the official opening of the maternity wing on Friday in Witu Ward, Governor Timamy said the maternity wing is a great milestone in his quest to ensure residents have access to healthcare services.

The governor who was accompanied by his Deputy HE Raphael Munyua, Health CECM Dr. Mbarak Bhajaj, CECMs and other County top officials, the Governor observed that with good primary healthcare at the dispensaries there would be less congestion at higher health facilities, thus giving them a chance to deal with more complex health matters.

The Governor who recently opened Mkunumbi maternity wing further committed towards achieving universal healthcare coverage by continuing to invest heavily in all health facilities across the county.

Mashujaa Day is a day to honour and pay tribute to both the historical and contemporary heroes and heroines of Kenya who have contributed significantly to the country’s progress, freedom, and well-being

Speaking during this years Mashujaa Day celebrations to commemorate our fallen heroes and heroines as well as honor those who continue to strive towards the building of our nation, Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy EGH, OGW said his Administration remains steadfast in delivering on commitments and working towards making sure Lamu becomes a better place to live.

Themed, Afya Majumbani’, this year’s celebrations were in special honor of Kenya’s Health Workers. In his speech the County Governor emphasized that his Administration has prioritized the revitalization of the Health Sector to ensure a healthy work force for sustained economic growth.

The ANC party leader further outlined the County Government achievements in different sectors; Health, Agriculture, Trade, Education, Blue Economy and Infrastructure Development reiterating commitment to further Sustainable Development through working closely with all leaders for the well-being of the people of Lamu.

County Commissioner Luis Rono, Deputy Governor H.E Raphael Munyua, County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Amb. Ali Abbas, CECMs, Chief Officers, MCAs, Provincial Administration leadership were among those who led the people in marking this celebration in Witu.

Governor Timamy Flags Off Over 500 Community Health Promoters To Strengthen Primary Health Care

Lamu Governor H. E Issa Timamy EGH, OGw has today flagged off over 500 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in a move to strengthen primary health care towards health promotion and disease prevention.

The CHPs who have been offering services at the community level under Timamy Care (Afya Mashinani Afya Majumbani) also received 427 promoter kits and will go along towards ensuring preventive approach in the disease burden. The kits are an additional to the 190 promoter kits that had earlier been issued by the County Government.

Speaking while flagging off 585 CHPs during the 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations in Witu, Governor Timamy thanked President William Ruto for co-opting to pay half stipend to the 100,000 countrywide CHPs while the county governments pays the rest.

Under Timamy Care, over 7,000 households have so far been visited a dedication to universal health coverage and community well-being.

LAMU COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL SERVICES TO PARTNER WITH PABLO HORTSMAN & FRANCISCO VITORIA UNIVERSITY TO IMPROVE PEDIATRICS & CHILD HEALTH SERVICES AT KING FAHD HOSPITAL

The Department of Medical Services has today 18th October 2023, agreed a deal in principle with the Spanish organization Parblo Hortsmann, and Francisco Vitoria University to establish a modern Pediatrics (children) OUTPATIENT wing at King Fahd hospital.

The Public-Private Partnership will see the NGO support the department in establishing an independent & well equipped CHILDREN UNIT with local & Spanish specialists attending to sick children.

The arrangement also seeks to upgrade the Pediatric & Child health unit at King Fahd hospital into a teaching hospital for doctors & nurses with support from the Francisco Vitoria University & Spanish Pediatric Association.

In attendance were the medical services team headed by CECM Dr Mbarak Bahjaj & Chief Officer Dr V. Tole, while the Pablo team was represented by Madam Presidente Dr Anna Singedorta & Antonio Selas.

LAMU COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP BENEFICIARIES FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2023

For the first time, H.E Governor Issa Timamy E.G.H, OGW has made public the list of beneficiaries of the scholarship programme in Lamu County.

According to the Governor, full scholarship students enrolled in boarding schools were each awarded 40,535/= and 15,000/= in day schools respectively.

Governor Timamy has further noted that the purpose of publishing the list of beneficiaries is for accountability and transparency purposes so that residents can know how their resources are being utilized.

The Department of Education has also urged all parents and guardians to use formal communication to notify the Department within ten (10 days) as from 16th October, 2023 in case a beneficiary is not captured in the list.

All complaints will be received through respective Ward Offices

Mstahiki Gavana Issa Timamy mapema leo , ametia saini kuwa sheria miswada 2 ya Afya:- ukiwemo ule wa Sheria ya Ufadhili wa Uboreshaji wa Vituo vya Afya ya mwaka 2023 Na Sheria ya Huduma za Afya na Afya ya Jamii ya Kaunti ya Lamu ya mwaka 2023.

Sheria hizi 2 zitatoa uhifadhi na upatikanaji wa rasilimali za kutosha katika mfumo wa mapato, kwa vituo vya afya katika Kaunti ya Lamu.

Sheria hii inatoa fursa ya Mapato yanayotokana na NHIF na makusanyo ya fedha taslimu yatumike kununua bidhaa na vifaa, huku ikihakiki miundo thabiti ya kuhakikisha uendelevu na uimarishaji wa huduma za afya katika ngazi ya jamii.

2,000 Girls From Lamu Get Free Sanitary Towels

More than 2,000 girls from Lamu County schools have a reason to smile after KCB issued them with sanitary pads through County Government of Lamu in an initiative that targets to keep vulnerable girls in school.

According to KCB, the initiative seeks to help girls who face challenges during the menstruation period.

Speaking while receiving the donation, Trade CECM Hon. Aisha Miraj thanked KCB for their goodwill towards ensuring young girls who have been victims of absenteeism and potential school drop outs continue to stay in school.

“Menstrual health education remains an urgent topic that needs concerted efforts by County Government and NGO’s among other development partners,” said Hon. Miraj.

Lands CECM Hon. Tashrifa Mohamed together with his Health counterpart Hon. Dr. Mbarak Bhajaj noted that many girls especially from marginalised groups, miss school while they are on their periods because they have no proper way to manage hygiene.

Health CECM further noted Governor Issa Timamy’s administration commitment to contribute towards establishing sustainable, integrated health systems to address communicable and non-communicable diseases.

LAMU COUNTY LAUNCHES POLIO VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

The Department of Public Health and sanitation in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has today 07/10/2023, launched a five day polio vaccination campaign at Mkunguni Square.

The campaign started today and will run upto Wednesday 11/10/2023.

During the launch, the CEC for Health Dr.Mbarak Bahjaj, urged the community to support and cooperate with the Healthcare workers who will be visiting households to administer the vaccine to children under 5 year.

He also added that the vaccine is safe to the children.

“Lamu County has 72% overall vaccine coverage”, Dr. Bahjaj said, as he urged the Lamu community to ensure children are vaccinated to target at least 80% vaccine coverage.

The colorful ceremony was attended by County Government Officials, Officials from Ministry of Health, area MCA, County Commisioner and Religious leaders.

LAMU RECIEVES Sh. 14M TO BOOST PRIMARY HEALTHCARE FROM USAID

Lamu County Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensure residents get quality and affordable healthcare.

Speaking at Mokowe County Headquarters on Wednesday during an entry meeting with USAID Stawisha Pwani who presented a cheque of Sh. 14 Million towards the establishment of primary healthcare network, the Governor thanked USAID for their partnership ephasizing that it will boost the County’s efforts towards accelerating primary healthcare.

“This partnership will go a long way towards promoting health services to be more accessible, affordable, and acceptable to the communities in Lamu County,” he said.

USAID further pledged to donate $100,000 which will be used by the Department of Health towards the establishment of a Methadone clinic and a Drug Abuse Psychosocial Support clinic at Faza hospital for rehabilitation of persons who use and inject drugs.

The primary health care grant will compliment Timamy Care (Afya Mashinani) initiative which has been instrumental in promoting proactive outreach services to the communities within the County to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases and mental health illnesses. Under Timamy Care, the Department of Health has undertaken successful 87 specialized clinics across the County where over 2,000 patients have been attended.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor H.E Raphael Munyua, CECM Health Hon. Dr. Mbarak Bhajaj, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Medical Services Director Dr. Baasba, Deputy Chief of Party Dr. Masaulo, Representative from the Ministry of Health among others.

JSC visits Lamu County To Foster Collaboration

JSC Commissioners this morning paid a courtesy call to Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy as part of the Commission’s outreach aimed at fostering collaboration in the administration of justice.

Governor Timamy acknowledged the work the commission is doing towards administration of justice and indicated willingness to work together with JSC in order to improve access to justice in the county.

The JSC briefed the Governor on areas and issues of common interest in the administration of justice, focusing on infrastructure and feedback from stakeholders.

The delegation also appreciated the support from Governor Timamy Administration towards solving issues on administration of justice and also lauded the Governor for giving land to JSC for the commencement of the construction of the first ever Lamu High Court.

The Governor also committed to working together with JSC to improve access to justice for all by allowing them to set up a temporary high court at the formerly Lamu County Assembly offices in Lamu as they await completion of the construction of the new High Court in Mokowe.
