LAMU HOSTS FOUR COUNTIES IN A SUCCESSFUL INVESTMENT CONFERENCE

Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade & Investment Hon. Rebecca Miano on Thursday graced the County Investment Conference that was held in Mokowe, Lamu.

The CS was received by Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW who hosted the county’s big moment to scout for investors for Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera Counties.

Attended by Governors and investors, the conference was themed: ‘Unveiling Opportunities, Redefining Northern Kenya as Investable Destination’ and aimed to spotlight the investment potential in the five counties that are plagued by challenges such as limited infrastructure, arid landscapes, and socio-economic disparities.

The CS noted that the conference served as a convergence point for both local and foreign investors to identify investment opportunities available in the five Counties. She further emphasized on the need for the member counties to be assisted towards unlocking their untapped potential since these opportunities will benefit both investors and residents.

Lamu Governor termed the event as a success adding that despite their unique challenges and hurdles faced by the five counties, collaborative efforts among the private sector, development partners, and public entities had led to notable strides in realizing viable, impactful investments.

“I state with conviction that Lamu is the best place for investment. We are strategically located as a gateway to Kenya through the LAPSSET project, favorable agro-climatic conditions, and a steadily growing population. I appeal to various development partners to come and invest in Lamu,” Governor Timamy said.

The conference delved into topics such as advancements in sustainable agriculture and livestock management, climate change and environmental degradation and financing mechanisms to stimulate economic growth and development in the region.

Facilitators, USAID Kuza said the primary goal of the event was to showcase the vast investment potential in the underserved areas and foster connections between potential investors and local businesses and entrepreneurs.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY STEERS LAMU SUCCESS STORY AT THE COUNTY INVESTMENT CONFERENCE IN LAMU

Lamu County was abuzz with energy as it prominently featured it’s endless investment potential at the Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera County Investment Conference that was held on Thursday at Mokowe Lamu Maritime and Innovation Centre in Lamu County.

Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW led the charge, organizing a remarkable display showcasing the county’s progressive vision and commitment to innovation and growth. Lamu showcased it’s wealth in agriculture, tourism and blue economy sectors as well as it’s aspiration to establish special economic zones. Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties also exhibited their potential.

“We are on a path of transformation, creating opportunities for economic growth in Lamu” Governor Timamy emphasized.

The one day event was graced by Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade & Investment Hon. Rebecca Miano and was also attended by Governors from Tana River, Garissa Wajir and Mandera counties respectively.

CS MIANO URGES INVESTORS TO INVEST IN LAMU DURING COUNTY INVESTMENT CONFERENCE

Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade & Investment Hon. Rebecca Miano, has emphasised the importance of Northern Kenya counties in tapping to LAPSSET project and redefine their position as the gateway to Eastern Africa.

Speaking on Thursday after gracing the official opening at the Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera County Investment Conference at Lamu Maritime and Innovation centre, the CS underscored the importance of supporting the five counties in harnessing their resources to create job opportunities and unlock their potential.

Under the stewardship of Governor Issa Timamy EGH,OGW, Lamu successfully hosted the joint five-County Investment Conference with an aim of exploring innovative solutions and stimulate economic growth at the frontier arid and marginalised regions.

CS MIANO & GOVERNORS’ ENJOYING ‘MADAFU’ WITH A LOCAL SME AT COUNTY INVESTMENT CONFERENCE, LAMU

The CS was in Lamu for County Investment Conference which created a platform for Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera Counties to identify the unique challenges faced by ASAL communities in the context of climate change, showcasing successful climate resilience initiatives, facilitating dialogue between government, NGOs, researchers, private sector, and local communities and brainstorming on practical solutions for building long-term resilience.

PLWD GROUPS RECEIVE OVER 2 MILLION START UP GRANTS FROM GOVERNOR TIMAMY

A total of 45 groups of People Living With Disabilities in Lamu County on Wednesday received business startup grants worth Ksh. 2,500,000 from Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW that will go a long way towards improving sustainable income-generating activities. The grants were issued during a meeting for Lamu County Disability Leadership forum at Mokowe Command Center.

“We have handed grants to groups from Lamu County and the grants will enable them to undertake various socio-economic projects” said Governor Timamy.

PLWD leadership applauded Governor Timamy leadership efforts to support PWD through its robust programs to better them in the County. The Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy Raphael Munyua, further stated that his administration remains committed towards ensuring the disabled get equal employment opportunities and support from the government as stipulated in the law. He further noted that the County Government of Lamu will undertake massive digitisation of disabled persons which will enable the government to cater for their needs.

Education CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga echoed the Governor’s sentiments noting that his Department remains committed in promoting PLWD in the county. The Governor further affirmed the County’s commitment on matters of the disabled, noting that through TimamyCare (Afya Mashinani) the county will be reaching out to the disabled at their respective homes.

In attendance was the County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief Officer Md. Hafswa Difini among others.

LAMU COUNTY BAGS PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL AVERTED DISASTER AWARD 2024

WorldBank Hub has awarded Lamu County the most prestigious Averted Disaster award program following the establishment of an Emergency Operation Center.

Lamu County was awarded for it’s outstanding disaster risk management intervention and making an extraordinary impact on community and future generations.

Lamu Emergency Operation Center was established by HE Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW as a hub for coordinating all forms of Disasters in the county on the sea, land or air.

The award was received on behalf of the County Government of Lamu by the Director for Disaster Risk Management and Peace Building Mr. Shee Kupi Shee who participated in the call for submission of nominations for Awards in January this year.

Other finalists in the Award included Jamaica, Turkey, Southern african region and India.

The Award event was held during the international UR24 Forum that was held in Himeji, Japan from 16th to 21st June this year.

“Mazingira na Maslahi ya Kijamii kupewa kipao mbele kwenye Mradi unaofadhiliwa na Banki ya Dunia”.

Mradi wa kuboresha makaazi yasiorasmi nchini Kenya unaofadhiliwa na Benki ya Dunia, utahakikisha kuwa mazingira na maslahi ya ulinzi wa Kijamii yameshughulikiwa ipasavyo ili kuzuwia maafa na migogoro.

Timu ya Kitaifa ya Uratibu wa Mradi(NPCT)na ile ya Kaunti (CPCT)pamoja na Mshauri kutoka kwa Benki ya Dunia, wametembelea makaazi yasiorasmi yaliyoratibiwa kuboreshwa katika Kaunti ya Lamu kwa zoezi la uthibitishaji wa mazingira na maslahi ya ulinzi wa Kijamii yametiliwa maanani ili mradi uwende sambamba na kanuni zilizowekwa kutekeleza Mradi huo unaodhaminiwa na benki ya Dunia kwa ushirikiano na serekali ya Kitaifa na ile ya Kaunti.

Shughuli za kibiashara, makaazi pamoja na usalama zinatarajiwa kuimarika mara tu mradi huu utakapokamilika.

Mradi huu, unalenga kuboresha makaazi yasiorasmi nchini kwenye Kaunti 33 huku Kaunti ya Lamu ikiwemo, ambapo makaazi yasiorasmi kama vile Witu, Mokowe,Matondoni, Wiyoni,Faza na Kiunga yatanufaika na Mradi huo.

LAMU CONTINUES TO ENHANCE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR TVET GRADUATES

In an effort to bridge the gap between education and employment, Lamu County Governor HE Issa Timamy EGH,OGW has remained committed to ensure Lamu TVET graduates are given a priority in the employment sector.

Speaking on Friday at Mokowe Command Center, the Governor noted that the county had contracted Lamu TVET graduates to undertake the renovation works at the Command Center. According to the Governor who expressed satisfaction with the ongoing works, the County will continue exploring innovative ways to enhance the employability of TVET graduates.

Towards this end, the County has modernised the TVETs by ensuring they have an aligned curriculum with industry needs, providing relevant skill development programs and understanding the demands of the modern job market.

The Governor was accompanied by Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY LEADS RESIDENTS IN WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATIONS AT WITU

Lamu County on Wednesday joined the rest of the globe in marking World Environment Day at Witu in a colourful event that was presided by Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW.

This year’s event was held under the theme, ‘Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience’

The Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy HE Raphael Munyua, thanked Witu residents and stakeholders for taking part in the clean up exercise and tree planting exercise and further urged residents to continue advocating for a greener environment and conservation of nature.

“As we celebrate World Environment Day, it’s essential to reflect on the past year and confront the environmental challenges ahead. Climate change isn’t a distant threat; it’s a pressing reality demanding immediate, coordinated action” said Governor Timamy.

The Governor further reiterated his Administration’s commitment in protecting land, forests and biodiversity which are critical towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

UN environment programme, Nature Kenya, GEF, KEMSFED, Flora & Fauna, Save Lamu, WWF, NEMA, KEFRI were among the key stakeholders who joined Witu residents to mark the World Environment Day. Also present were County Executive Committee Members.
