2,000 Girls From Lamu Get Free Sanitary Towels
More than 2,000 girls from Lamu County schools have a reason to smile after KCB issued them with sanitary pads through County Government of Lamu in an initiative that targets to keep vulnerable girls in school.
According to KCB, the initiative seeks to help girls who face challenges during the menstruation period.
Speaking while receiving the donation, Trade CECM Hon. Aisha Miraj thanked KCB for their goodwill towards ensuring young girls who have been victims of absenteeism and potential school drop outs continue to stay in school.
“Menstrual health education remains an urgent topic that needs concerted efforts by County Government and NGO’s among other development partners,” said Hon. Miraj.
Lands CECM Hon. Tashrifa Mohamed together with his Health counterpart Hon. Dr. Mbarak Bhajaj noted that many girls especially from marginalised groups, miss school while they are on their periods because they have no proper way to manage hygiene.
Health CECM further noted Governor Issa Timamy’s administration commitment to contribute towards establishing sustainable, integrated health systems to address communicable and non-communicable diseases.
