GIVE POWER TO PARTNER WITH COUNTY IN WATER DESALINATION PROJECTS
County Government of Lamu will work with Give Power to set up desalination plants in Lamu West and East sub counties as part of solving the existing water crisis issues.
Speaking when paying a courtesy call on Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy at his Mokowe office, The Non-Governmental Organization President Mrs. Michele Magee said that they would be conducting a feasibility study on the viability of getting water from Lake Moa and supply to Moa, Katsaka Kairu, Bora Moyoo, Chalaluma and the neighborhood villages.
Towards ensuring Lamu residents have access to clean water for domestic use, Governor Timamy committed to rehabilitate the vandalized Witu- Pandanguo water pipeline and revive Siu desalination plant.
“Access to clean water is among the pledges I made to the great people of Lamu and towards this course, my administration is in the process of procuring three water boozers where one will go to the East and the others to Lamu West sub county. The boozers will be critical in supplying water to villages that are in dire need of water like Basuba, Mararani, Madina, Kiangwe, Mangai and others” stated Governor Timamy.
He further added that his administration will continue partnering with donors and other development partners to drill boreholes, set up desalination plants and also start water harvesting as mitigation measures solve the water crisis in Lamu.
Give Power further commited to set up a desalination plant in Pate and also commission five solar power projects in July this year where three schools and two dispensaries will benefit.
Inattendance was Lamu Deputy Governor H.E. Raphael Munyua, CECM- Water and Natural Resource Hon. Tashrifa Bakari, CECM Finance- Hon. Mohamed Mbwana, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Give Power Regional Head Mr. Eric Odipo and NRT representatives.
