Lamu County was declared the best county in County Integrated Development Plan out of 47 counties in Kenya’s County Budget Transparency Survey (CBTS) 2023, which took place on Friday in a Nairobi hotel.

This survey was based on an evaluation of the primary planning and budget papers that counties are expected to produce as a source of information for the public to scrutinize county operations.

This is part of Lamu County’s conscious attempt to keep the public informed about its activities by providing unhindered access to major county plans, documents, and reports .

Speaking when he received the award, Finance CECM Hon. Mohamed Mbwana who was representing Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy EGH, OGW lauded the Finance, Planning, Communication and ICT departments saying that they have made it possible through their excellent hard work and commitment to share information with the public.

As Lamu proceeds toward industrialisation, Hon. Mbwana urged residents and other stakeholders to continue participating with the government, use the information supplied for decision-making, and take advantage of the opportunities for citizen-led economic growth.

The scientific survey was done across all 47 counties on proper annual report preparation as well as the level of involvement to the members of the public in it’s processes based on verifiable facts.

KDF Linda Boni Chief of Staff Office in conjuction with Lamu County Government is conducting a multiagency community engagement forum with locals from border villages in Kiunga ward with an aim of assessing the security situations that sought to cement trust between community and security agents in Kiunga border region.

The forum which is the first of its kind to be held in the border villages since the appointment of a new COS for operation Amani Boni, brought onboard various multiagency team drawn from NG-DCC Lamu east, DCI, DMI, KDF, KWS, NIS, NPS, RBPU, GSU, Police Reserving among other stakeholders.

The Community were deeply touched by this visit and openly expressed their views with possible solutions and vowed to cooperate with security agents in abid to protect their areas from any hazardous enemies.

The Department of Health will conduct a free Multi Speciality Medical camp between 12th-14th July 2024 at King Fahd Hospital.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy calls upon residents who would want to attend the multi speciality camp to undergo screening at King Fahd, Faza, Mpeketoni and Witu hospitals between 18thJune-25th May 2024.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Thursday donated assorted food stuffs to Hongwe Special Integrated Primary school where he spent quality time with pupils and encouraged them during the visit.

The Governor committed on ensuring that all children of school-age, regardless of being physically or mentally challenged are entitled to inclusive and equitable quality basic education in order to achieve a better future.

Speaking at the school where he also delivered a fence chain that he had promised the school, the Governor urged learners with special needs not to allow their disabilities to deprive them of self-confidence in attaining a better future.

“My Administration will not leave any child behind and will continue to promote a basic learning opportunity for all, including the children with special needs,” said Governor Timamy.

Towards supporting the school, the Governor further committed to donate 50 learning desks as part of his administration’s unwavering commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society in Lamu.

Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy EGH on Tuesday attended the launch of Sh. 46.2 billion Kenya Urban Support Program II at State House Nairobi.

The launch which was presided over by President William Ruto is spearheaded by the government of Kenya with support from the World Bank and is designed to fortify urban institutions’ capacities, thereby enhancing the delivery and resilience of urban infrastructure and services.

Lamu which is among the 45 beneficiary counties with one municipality, will establish more inclusive and resilient urban services and infrastructure, improved private sector engagement and improved integrated development.

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), through the intervention of Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KMTC outlining modalities of engagement between the two institutions to enhance health services delivery in the County.

The MoU which will enable the college to enroll 800 medical students this september, encompasses;

1. Enhancing training of health professionals by introducing more courses like; Nursing, Clinical Medicine & Orthopedics/Trauma Courses.

2. The new Mokowe hospital to become the County Orthopedics & trauma centre, Modern eye unit and maternity where KMTC students will be offered attachment at the facility, King Fahd and Mpeketoni hospitals respectively.

3. Medical students will get to use the new Mokowe Hospital facility for learning purposes while the Department of Health leverages on the arrangement to boost human capacity.

Speaking during the signing in Nairobi, Governor Issa Timamy hailed the move as one that would greatly benefit the county.

“KMTC is critical in supporting the County Government to equip their health facilities with the requisite human resource and my government will work with the College to boost medical training and enable the success of President William Ruto to achieve the Universal Health Care agenda” the Governor said.

He further thanked KMTC for having awarded six scholarships to Lamu students and are currently pursuing their courses at different campuses.

The scholarships were awarded under the Beyond Zero project following the Governor’s intervention.

Echoing the Governor’s sentiments, Health CECM Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj underscored the importance of the MoU towards giving an opportunity for the County and the institute to work together to enhance the delivery of its mandate in training and research.

KMTC CEO, Dr.Kelly Oluoch assured the Governor that the MoU will cement their working relationship and ensure that they are all doing their part to achieve the objective of strengthening the health systems in Lamu County.

KMTC Chairperson Joseah K Cheruiyot and KMTC Board Members also witnessed the signing.

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has warned Lamu residents in preparation for the imminent arrival of Cyclone Hidaya which is set to make landfall in Tanzania and Kenya coastal towns.

Speaking when he chaired a high-level multi-agency meeting at Lamu County Headquarters on Friday, Governor Timamy gave his administrations resounding commitment to ensure there is no loss of lives in the event the cyclone hits Lamu.

“We have had an intensive discussion spanning a wide spectrum of critical topics, encompassing evacuation protocols, resource allocation, infrastructure resilience and communication strategies. We stand united in our commitment to protecting our citizens,” affirmed the Governor.

The cyclone’s trajectory suggests Tanzania will bear the brunt of its force, but there are concerns that some parts of coastal Kenya including Lamu may also experience it’s wrath.

Following these concerns, Governor Timamy has activated the County Emergency Operation Center that will dispatch public communication to ensure that until Monday next week commercial boats will not carry passengers to their capacity, boat passengers must all wear life jackets while travelling between Lamu and Lamu East stands cancelled indefinetly until next week.

The ANC party leader also noted that the meeting had agreed that fishermen should sieze all fishing activities until next week when the cyclone ends.

Cyclone Hidaya is expected to result in heavy rainfall, large waves and strong winds that could affect activities for all those who live along the the Indian Ocean.

4,734 fisher folk who lost their fishing grounds following the construction of the Port of Lamu are to receive approximately KSh. 1.7 Billion as their compensation once all fishermen append their signatures in agreement of the compensation.

Speaking when hosting a stakeholders meeting at the Lamu County Headquarters, Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW noted that out of 4,167 who have been, verified and cleared by EACC only 3,935 fishermen had signed their compensation agreement with the remaining 232 yet to append their signatures and they haven’t showed up yet.

The Governor tasked the Department of Fisheries to physically contact the remaining individual fisher folk to append their signature to the agreement.

The Governor further noted that the fishermen will receive 65% in cash from the Government as the first phase of the compensation with the remaining 35% of the total amount set aside for sustainability of fisheries activities will be used to buy modern fishing equipment to enable them access deep sea fishing to maximise the exploitation without interfering with the stocks and help them transition from semi-scale to semi-commercial and gradually to commercial basis.

The Governor once again directed the taskforce to fast track the exercise so that the fishermen get their compensation soonest.

Lamu Deputy Governor HE Raphael Munyua has on Thursday represented Governor Issa Timamy at the official handing over of construction of County Headquarters from the State Department for Public Works to Lamu County in Nairobi.

Lamu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Isiolo and Tana River counties did not inherit adequate facilities that could accommodate the new administration at the onset of devolution, and their construction is at different levels of completion.

The allocation for the construction of the county headquarters is intended to promote devolution by ensuring that the counties have the appropriate infrastructure necessary to perform their respective functions.
