LAMU GOVERNOR PRESIDES OVER COUNTY TOP STUDENTS PRIZE GIVING DAY AT LAMU BOYS PRIMARY SCHOOL

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Saturday presided over county wide prize-giving day that was held at Lamu Boys Primary School (Mohamed Bin Fadhil and Mohamed) in Mkomani Ward, Lamu Island.

Governor Timamy awarded prizes to students who recorded a mean grade of B+ and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2023 as well as teachers of the leading subjects in KCSE 2023.

The Governor encouraged students to work hard on their studies and aspire to be responsible citizens in a colourful event where 8 students who scored B+ and above were awarded.

Governor Timamy reiterated Lamu County Government’s commitment to ensure access to education for all, saying that the County Government of Lamu will continue giving scholarships and bursaries to all top performers and deserving students across the county.

“My administration has pledged to pay Kenya shillings forty thousands, Ksh 40,000/= in form of scholarship per learner identified through the rigorous but consultative process. Presently, my government has already disbursed scholarships to all form two, three and four continuing students and we will soon be disbursing form one scholarships” said ANC Party Leader and further denoted that the scholarship program had proven to be a great catalyst towards helping to improve the general performance of the whole County.

The Governor was accompanied by his Deputy Raphael Munyua, CECM Education Hon. Sebastian Owanga, CECM Health Hon. Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj, CECM Finance Hon. Mohamed Mbwana, Mkomani MCA Hon. Shekhuna, nominated MCA Hon. Medo among others.

HE Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has today paid a courtesy call on H. E. Arnaud Suquet, Ambassador of France to Kenya at his residence in Nairobi.

The duo discussed areas of cooperation between France and Lamu County which included water, health, ICT, Youth and women empowerment and culture.

The Governor was accompanied by County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy on Wednesday held a consultative meeting with USAID KUZA Chief of Party Mr. Wyane Bright to discuss areas of mutual interest between USAID KUZA and the County Government of Lamu.

The ANC Party Leader and Council of Governors Blue Economy Committee Chair, was accompanied by County Government of Lamu County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas.

HE Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Wednesday held a fruitful meeting with Dr. Shaheen Nilofer,Country Director of UNICEF in Kenya to discuss on areas of possible collaboration with Lamu County.

The meeting which was held in Nairobi delved on various cross cutting issues on health, wash programs, issues of vulnerable and marginalised children.

UNICEF has been supporting Lamu county through the Department of Sanitation in prepositioning and distribution of critical UNICEF supplies to support WASH, Health and Nutrition life saving response.

They also agreed to strengthen their collaboration for the benefit of Lamu residents.

LAMU & REREC SIGN A MULTIMILLION DEAL FOR ELECTRIFICATION

County Government of Lamu and Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) have signed a multimillion deal giving a clear direction in regards to electrification of the county and the role that each party will play in this collaboration.

The MoU was signed on Wednesday at Kawi House, South C, Nairobi.

The collaboration partnership which is in a tune of Ksh. 20 million was witnessed by ANC Party leader and Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW and will see the county Government of Lamu commit a total of 10 million for two sub counties in the current financial year 2023/2024, while REREC will match the funds to a maximum of Ksh. 10 m.

This new collaboration between REREC and Lamu County Government marks the beginning of a transformative journey towards electrifying the remote areas of Lamu County.

LAMU & WWF STRENGTHENS THEIR PARTNERSHIP

Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy OGW, EGH on Wednesday visited WWF Headquarters at Karen Nairobi where he held constructive talks with WWF CEO Mr. Mohamed Awer and his team on various interventions of WWF in Lamu County and the forthcoming projects they plan to undertake in Lamu.

Governor Timamy who is in Nairobi on a working tour lauded WWF for their contribution towards establishment of Lamu Emergency Operation Centre, mangrove and nature based solution projects and fisheries within the county.

The Council of Governors’ Blue Economy Committee Chair noted that he was keen on ensuring Lamu preserves its wetland areas and water towers like Lake Kenyatta, lake Moa, sand dunes as well strengthening of BMUs to support dip sea fishing.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY PAYS COURTESY CALL ON OMAN AMBASSADOR

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has today paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mrs. Nasra Salim Al Hashmi at the Sultanate of Oman Embassy, Muthaiga, Nairobi.

The Governor and the Ambassador discussed areas of interest and investment opportunities in Lamu County and further agreed to strengthen the brotherly relationship between Oman and Lamu County.

The Governor who is Nairobi on a working tour was accompanied by County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas and has been meeting other development partners to discuss areas of possible collaborations.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY ENGAGES WITH TURKISH ORGANIZATION (TIKA)ON HOW THEY CAN SUPPORT LAMU IN SOCIAL & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has today paid a courtesy call on Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA)Director Ms. Yasemin CANSUZ – KURT,Government in Nairobi.

The meeting delved on how they can cooperate in women empowerment, health Sector, training in disaster management in sea disaster, flooding, fire among others.

TİKA is an implementing intermediary of Turkish foreign policy, particularly in the countries with whom they have shared values.

Governor Timamy noted that the partnership between County Government of Lamu and TİKA was in line with his manifesto towards women empowerment, creating jobs and unlocking the economic potential of Lamu County.

COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF LAMU OFFICIALLY HANDS OVER KIZINGITINI MODERN MARKET SITE TO THE CONTRACTOR AHEAD PRESIDENT RUTO GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY

Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua accompanied by Lamu East MP Capt. Ruweida have this morning presided over Kizingitini modern market site hand over ahead of the official ground breaking ceremony that will be presided by President William Ruto later this month.

The DG thanked President William Ruto’s administration for allocating funds to set up the market and further thanked Governor Timamy for providing land for the construction of the first ultra modern market in Faza Ward. He further noted once completed, the market will benefit more than 200 families and will unlock the economic potential of Kizingitini and neighboring villages.

In attendance was Coast Housing and Markets Regional Director Mr. John Karanja, Trade CECM Hon. Aisha Muraj, Trade Chief Officer Md. Joyce Murimi, Fisheries Chief Officer Mr. Shariff Kamalu, Faza Ward administrator among others.
