GOVERNOR TIMAMY LAUNCHES MULTI-MILLION KISIP2 PROJECTS IN MOKOWE

County Government of Lamu in partnership with the World Bank, has today launched The Second Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP 2) to improve the status of Mokowe town in Hindi ward.

Speaking during the launch at Mokowe town, Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW said the project involves footpath cabro paving, improvement of water supply, installation of high masts lighting towers and improvement of drainage systems.

Over Sh. 400 million will be used towards facelifiting six selected Informal Settlements namely, Witu, Mokowe, Kiunga, Wiyoni, Faza and Matondoni areas respectively. Governor Timamy further expressed happiness that the project will increase trading hours which will significantly improve the economic status of Mokowe residents.

“The cabro roads will enhance business activities and address complaints raised in the informal settlements. Poor living standards impede people’s efforts in wealth creation,” said Governor Timamy.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY SIGNS AN MoU WITH NEPHROMED (K) LTD TO SET UP A DIALYSIS UNIT AT MPEKETONI SUB-COUNTY HOSPITAL

Earlier on Wednesday, Lamu County Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW witnessed the signing of an MoU between the department of Medical Services and Nephromed (K) Ltd that will see Mpeketoni hospital get a new DIALYSIS UNIT.

The unit will ease the burden for patients with end-stage kidney disease who have had to travel a long distance to acquire the life-saving intervention at King Fahd Hospital.

The delighted Governor emphasized the importance of Public-Private Partnerships as a strategy to bridge financial gaps experienced by counties with very low exchequer allocation such as Lamu.

Present during the brief ceremony were the Women Representative Lamu County Hon. Muthoni Marubu, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, CECM Health services Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj and the CEO Nephromed Ltd Mr. Deepak Sharma.

KING FAHD HOSPITAL RECEIVES A DONATION OF ICU EQUIPMENT WORTH KSH 10 MILLION

The Anidan Pablo hortsman Foundation on Wednesday donated ICU equipment worth over KSH 10 million to King Fahd hospital.

The equipment will enable the Lamu County Referral Hospital set up 2 ICU beds for children, on top of the 3 adult beds in the original plans, making the ICU have a total capacity of 5 beds.

The ICU is awaiting the installation of the oxygen plant for full operationalization and is expected to be ready by November this year.

Receiving the equipment at King Fahd Hospital, CECM Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj thanked the Pablo hortsman Foundation represented by Ms. Helena Navarro and Mr. Stephen Odero.

Public Participation on CADP 2025-2026 kicked off across the wards.

Lamu County government through the department of Finance, Strategy and Economic Planning has today conducted a Public Participation on County Annual Development Plan of the financial year 2025-2026 across all of the 10 ward.

Chief Officer Budget Mr. Bwanaheri Avukame, led in receiving views from the members of the public.

In attendance was Director of Budget Mr. Andrew Waweru, Hindi ward administrator Kassim Ahmed among others

KISIP 2 County Project Coordination Team led by Chief Officer for Lands, Natural Resources, Physical Planning and Urban development Mr. Ahmed Ali, on Monday handed over four sites for informal settlement of Faza, Kiunga, Matondoni, Mokowe,Witu and Wiyoni.

The Chief Officer also introduced to the contractor, Settlement Executive Committee and Grievances Redress Committee and they will work together towards the completion of the projects.

Babito General Contractors and Supplies Limited, will construct roads with storm drains and paved footpaths of bitumen standards as well as high mast solar powered flood lights in selected Informal settlements.

The project is being funded by the Word bank in conjunction with the state department of Lands and Lamu County Government.

Hindu Salim a SEC member of Wiyoni Settlements assured the contractor of their support during the implementation of the project.

H.E the Governor Issa Timamy is expected to officiate ground breaking of the said project.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY INKS A DEAL WITH BANDARI COLLEGE TO ANCHOR IT’S BLUE ECONOMY COURSES IN LAMU

Lamu seafarers have a reason to smile following the signing of an agreement between the County Government of Lamu and Bandari College to sponsor the first cohort of students for marine-related training to enable them to benefit maximally from the job opportunities arising from the blue economy.

Speaking at the County Headquarters in Mokowe on Wednesday, H.E Governors Issa Timamy EGH, OGW noted that the partnership will see the first cohort of 24 young men and women undergo a 10 days training under full scholarship courtesy of the County Government of Lamu and Bandari College with trainees getting guaranteed sea time upon certification.

“Apart from paying for tuition fees, trainees shall receive a stipend from the County Government of Lamu as we remain focused on developing the needed of maritime labour for both the national and international markets” Said the Council of Governor’s Blue Economy Committee Chair.

The County Government of Lamu through the Department of Education shall also foot for the cost of trainees certificates.

Through the Department of Blue Economy, the County Government of Lamu has also reached an agreement with KMA to partner on maritime curriculum developent courses and capacity bulding for trainers which will be undertaken at Lamu Maritime and Innovation Center in Hindi ward through the assistance of Mombasa’s Bandari College. Bandari College further reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing a collaborative approach in dealing with seafarers, social partners, international transport workers federation, ship-owners, recruitment and placement agents in line with the International Labour Organization’s advocacy of tripartite consultation.

Also present was County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, CECM Fisheries and Blue Economy Hon. Faiz Fankupi and CECM Education Hon. Sebastian Owanga.

Lamu County through the department of Public Health is continuing its efforts to deal with the Cholera outbreak by visiting communities and schools to sensitize them against the disease.

Cholera has been reported in witu ward, with two people losing their lives so far.

The public has been aurged to maintain cleanliness and high standard of hygiene.

Those who attended were the Director of Public Health Mohamed Abubakar, County Health Promotion Officer,Muhsin Mohamed among others.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY SET TO OPEN A NEW WING OF PRIVATE & SEMI-PRIVATE WARDS AT MPEKETONI SUB-COUNTY HOSPITAL

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW is expected to officially commission the new wing of Mpeketoni Sub-county hospital private and semi-private wards before the end of the year.

Speaking while inspecting the ongoing construction works at Mpeketoni Hospital, Health CECM Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj emphasized the importance of investing in healthcare infrastructure as a fundamental pillar of providing healthcare services to the people.

“The construction of the 19 semi-private and 4 private wards at this hospital reflects Governor Issa Timamy’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare and ensuring that our people have access to essential medical services,” he stated.

“These facilities will not only expand our capacities to accommodate patients but will signify quality and dignified care for patients as well as providing specialized services that will address the critical gaps at the wards ” added the Dr. Bahjaj.

Towards this improvement, Governor Timamy has ensured the hospital has a dedicated transformer and a standby power back up generator to guarantee effective and efficient service delivery.

LAMU COUNTY SET TO OPEN A NEW WING IN PLANS TO EXPAND MPEKETONI SUB-COUNTY HOSPITAL

Lamu West sub-county residents are set to benefit immensely from improved health care once the new Mpeketoni Sub-county hospital wing is commissioned.

The expansion is being undertaken by the County Government of Lamu through the Department of Health and will tremendously transform the facility into a leading hospital offering integrated health care services for the people it serves.

Speaking while inspecting the ongoing construction works at the old Mpeketoni Hospital, Health CECM Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj noted that the upgrading of the building which is 70% complete will harbour Integrated Infectious Diseases Unit, Comprehensive Care Unit and Corporate Outpatient Unit and is expected to ease pressure at the facility and other health centres within the County.

“We are optimistic that by early October, the public will start enjoying improved services and will no longer be required to travel for miles to seek medical services at private facilities as well as outside the county” Dr. Bahjaj noted.

The CECM, who was accompanied Health Chief Officer Dr. Victor Tole, also committed to ensure the Health Department continues to bring specialised health care services closer to mwananchi which is in line with H.E. Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW health care pillar.

The CECM also inspected the ongoing construction of a kitchen and a store as well as the newly installed laundry machines. The expansion will go a long way towards ensuring seamless service delivery at the facility which currently serves over 3,000 inpatients and over 38,000 outpatients annually
