GOVERNOR TIMAMY COMMISSIONS Sh. 58 MILLION MPEKETONI MARKET
Mpeketoni traders have something to smile about after Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Friday officially opened Mpeketoni Modern Market to bolster trade and support small-scale enterprises in Lamu West Sub-county.
The new market which has a capacity to accommodate over 250 traders was constructed through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Trade and Investment and also incorporates a perimeter wall, ablution block, cabro paving and construction of the market to Jua Kali cabro access road..
Speaking in Mpeketoni during the official opening event, Governor Timamy said his administration would continue to engage in projects that will improve the lives of the residents.
“My agenda was to set up a modern market and help traders carry out their economic activities in a conducive environment. My administration further gives two month tax grace period to all traders to enable them stabilize” said Governor Timamy.
Mama Judith, a trader in the market, said she is hopeful her fortunes will be transformed by the new market. She added that the traders had been suffering from dust and scorching sunlight because the market place was exposed.
MCAs led by Bahari Ward representative Hon. Francis Gakonga committed to support Governor Timamy towards achieving his development agenda.

Mohamed Mbwana, Agriculture CECM Hon. James Gichu, Trade Chief Officer Md. Joyce Murimi, Infrastructure Chief Officer Mr. Alex Jimbi, Bahari, Mkunumbi and Hongwe Ward administrators.
